So I got the mmi firmware and nav updates, which after a lot of faffing about, mainly because the instructions were written in the most appalling english and almost incomprehensible, I got installed and working. Whilst doing the activation sequence for the navigation, I opened the door to speak to our builder and when I got back in the car there was nothing. The car seems to work but there is no illumination of any of the mmi buttons, the screen won't appear and there is no audio. The display in the instrument cluster just says that "media/radio/navigation is initialising, please wait". I have used vcds and hopefully attached the log. There appears to be no communication with the radio or mmi, so is it totally ******?
Any advice on what to do now?
    Cheers

Is this on the facelift with the tech pack/mmi plus?
If ignition isn't on and you open a door the car turns everything off. Not a good sign 5f isn't readable.
If it's the facelift mmi plus you need to remember the update file is like 11-14gb and this can take forever to load so it might be still doing it in the background.
First time I updated mine took over an hour so you might be lucky.
Give a while and try doing the reboot on the mmi

The update for the firmware was done successfully first, then I did the navigation software successfully and it all went **** up when doing the activation for the navigation. Ignition was on, all electrics off and car was on a trickle charger.

What year is your car? Where did you acquire the update discs/card from?

Check the fuse. Sorry that's all I've got.
Otherwise if it's under warranty then take it to dealers and let them sort it. It's very unlikely you fried the 5F unit

There is a nav activation file that is doing the rounds on the internet that will brick the 5F unit, and the only way to get it back is to solder a serial connector on the main board on the 5F module and reload the firmware. This is the risk of doing your own firmware & map updates with files on the internet.

Warranty may be out as the dealers will be able to check what is going on with the MMI modules, and can check if firmware has been ran on other ECU/MMI modules as it will not match what is on Audi database. Audi record all coding & firmware on every car that leaves the factory, and only a dealer can make changes to this database via VAS.

The car is a 2012 avant and I got the cards from an apparently reputable website that others on here have used.

So if the 5F unit is toasted will my local dealer be able to repair the damage or will they just quote for a new unit?

If you have ran the activation file that I've seen on the internet that corrupts the 5F unit, then dealer will not be able to recover the unit, and will charge you for a replacement. (approx £2,000 looking at etka) Your best option is to get a replacement from ebay. If you send me a list of all the file on the activation image then I can confirm if it's the bad activation file that is doing the rounds on the internet.

I would not trust these sites, they take your money and give you stuff they they have downloaded from sites like gps underground and then charge you for it. May as well do the research yourself, and save yourself a few quid.
