    Hi,

Got a 2.0TFSI Quattro as the name suggests. Have seen posts regarding the servicing of the Haldex system on A3's, does something need servicing on the A4 system or as it's a different system it's not required?

Still get the infamous Quattro judder despite having bedded in 4 new tyres. Car has just hit 50k.

    Thanks

    Mike

no, you have a centre diff inside the main gearbox thats splits the power to the front and rear axles. you need to change the gearbox oil and the rear diff oil as per the servicing schedule. a ' haldex' as found in the rear of an a3 and any other audi or vw with a transverse engine, is a hydraulic clutch that locks up to power the rear wheels, but only when needed, so they are normally only front drive. the haldex needs its own oil changed, and thats separate to the rear diff. your car is true quattro wit all 4 wheels driven at all times, same as the original audi quattro.

Sorry, am a bit confused now, no servicing or gear box oil and rear diff oil changed? What is the servicing schedule for this?

    Thanks for the swift replies!

If you visit your main Audi dealer service desk and ask the same question you'll be met with a confused stare and much shuffling of paper while they check specification sheets.

Audi will say these are 'sealed for life' units and require no servicing. The reality is, all gear oil breaks down with time and use, and the viscosity will alter. I changed the rear diff oil on my Amtrak locomotive at 109k and it came out like Mellow Birds.

I think you're safe enough at 50k for a while yet. Save your money for the timing belt change which needs done every 75k miles (4-cylinder diesels) or 5 years. V6 diesels from memory are every 80k miles or 5 years, whichever is sooner. Replace water pump and tensioner, thermostat and auxilliary belts with genuine VAG kit.

When you get around to the gear oil on the rear diff, again use genuine specification oil. Takes around 2 litres. Always release the fill plug first, before dropping the drain plug, just in case you run into trouble.

My transmission gear oil is still original, and I've just clocked 170k. Gearbox is still as tight as the day it rolled off the production line at Ingolstadt.

Great, thanks for clarifying, I feel a lot happier now knowing I should be ok for a while.

Timing belt and water pump was done at the beginning of the year so I'm all good.

    Thanks very much

    Mike
