Another question for the forum that someone might be able to answer. Sometimes when I start the car I get 4 beeps which sound like they are eminating from the rear left hand side of the car, somewhere near the Cd changer, any ideas? Also any bright ideas as to how to stop the bloody rear shelf creaking? besides turning up the stereo! Any other Irish people here or am I the token Paddy.

Hi, Sorry for the delay ,I only noticed this post whilst trying to upgrade the site I will have a word with my technical expert about this, and see what he can come up with. Good thing is, he owns a "TT", so may have even had the same problems.

I will get back to you on this Monday if that's OK

    Stuart

    Hi

Right, having spoken to a couple of VAG specialist, they are at a complete loss as to what could be making this noise I have had suggestions of possible alarm, parking sensors, but no real good news.......sorry.

As for the rear shelf you could try getting some self adesive rubber pads on the plastic carriers, this may help.

Sorry I could not be more helpful.

    Hi there,
Thanks for checking it out for me anyway. Maybe someone else has had the same problem and let us know.Read somewhere that you can use silicone on the rear shelf as it seems to be in two halves like an Airfix model but I have decided not to mess with it cos I know if I break it ,it will cost me a fortune for a new one. One thing abouts VAGS is they always are predictable when it comes to problems. Both Coupe's I had needed new bushings on the front every so ofter and I think the TT will be the same. Thought by now they would have engineered this out of their cars. Anyone know a good web site to buy new front mats? The ones that are in it are ok but Id like to get a new set. Thanks again

Can't help with the answer but I get the same 4 beeps occasionally when starting up my A6 2.7T Quattro Avant. Only ever seems to be cold start and another site suggests it could be an alarm sensor problem. The beeps do sound like alarm beeps but my alarm seems to be functioning fine and otherwise car is normal. I can't find any reference to audible warnings of this nature in the book so I'm not going to risk signing away blank cheques to Audi main ******* at this stage!! Is this any help for your diagnosis?

I have a A6 1.9 TDI with the same problem..... did you get it fixed? I believe it's to do with the alarm battery backup.

How did you get on with that beeping and have you subsequently had alarm problem? I noticed the beeping on my A4 a few times when I started up in the morning but assumed it was the cd changer. Now when I go to set my alarm, the lights dont flash and the alarm beeps after a couple of minutes.

I was in two minds to take the care to the garage, though no one seems to know what the problem specifically is. Rather than waste a load of money I figured, yes it may well be the battery backup for the alarm not charging as I only seem to have done (mostly)short journeys in the last 12 months. I hooked up my battery charger to the battery in the car and just let it charge thinking that not only would it charge the car battery to full but also perhaps the alarm battery backup - in the same way the alternator would. As the alternator isn't really for charging batteries I thought that the extra charge from the charger would work. I haven't had any problems with the beeping since. My concern with yours is that if the lights don't work you'll need to sort something out soon before nothing else works on the alarm.......
