    Hi all

First post and could do with some advice please.

Just got a 2012 Audi A6 Avant which has MMI 3G plus....I think, 2 x SD slots and a sim card slot?

I have hopefully attached a photo of my mmi screen. I would like to update the maps to a more current version and update the mmi firmware so that I can use a data sim in the car and my iPhone for calls. Also I'd like to update the sat nav, so that the " licence " that has expired is no longer expired.

I spoke to Audi customer services about the "licence" and they said that they'd never heard of it and put me through to my local dealer at Colchester, who said that they'd never heard of it but called back later on in the day to say there was a Technical Service Bulletin saying that the update service was not currently available. With regards to the maps, they quoted £267 but couldn't tell me which version I'd get and with regards to the firmware, they couldn't see why I needed it done and if they could do it, they wouldn't be able to tell which version was available until they hooked the car up!!!!!

So, I found a site called audisatnvs.com who say they can sell me all of the above.

So do I take it to Audi and be dicked about or has anyone tried the other avenue or is there another alternative?

    Many thanks

Many people have used the website you list. No idea of the legalities/copyright but let's assume they are legit.

Might also be worth having a chat with John Austin, the indy at Marks Tey.

    Find a better dealer.

    Most
of the websites are selling pirate copies. Not that I've got anything against piracy... but if you are living on that side of the law, you might as-well do it yourself for free rather than paying someone.

The latest versions for your car are:
    • MMI firmware 8R0906961EA K900 3GPEU900
    • Navigation database 8R0060884CH ECE 6.20.4

I paid the dealer to have mine updated to those two last week. Bath Audi charged £199 (inc-VAT) for the pair of them.

For MMI firmware, the default answer why is "to improve Bluetooth phone compatibility and fix random hangs". But as you're the paying customer, the dealer should just get on and do it without asking! Bath Audi are very good and just took my money and did as I asked .

There is probably a newer database coming out soonish (the expected part number is 8R0060884CR ECE 6.21.2) but the dealers don't have it yet.

The online traffic data was a three year license. Which, I believe, is from when it was first activated, and not when the car actually rolled off the production line).

When it comes to it, ring them up, 0800 699 888 (UK)

Take the name of the person your talk to (as a point of reference)

    Tell them your problem, typically;
You have Audi Connect, it has a on-line traffic service.
The MMI menu option to activate it says: Licence can not be activated, please contact your dealer.
Tell them you went to your local audi dealer & they referred you to AUDI UK CUSTOMER SERVICES.

You'll need your car registration, if you recently changed your plate to a private one, give them the old plate number.
If your on a private plate more than a month, give them your private reg plate.

Audi UK usually contact AUDI DE & get back to you with updates every 4-5 days, normally the licence is resolved (activated) 1-2 weeks later.
They normally extend the licence 1-2 years ( in 1-2 years you repeat).

The problem is, Audi have no Idea what to do with all this data, their DATA CENTRE is big & still figuring out what to do with Audi connect.

I had already spoken to Audi Uk and they transferred the call to my local dealer. I shall try again but not at Colchester Audi!!!

With regards to the software, I was more than happy to pay to do it but I'm not at all prepared to pay for sub standard service and you get what we give you attitude.

Thanks for the links, have read them and will try customer services again.

You have to keep battling to get the firmware updates. When I put the deposit down on my (2 yo) Allroad, I explicitly asked for it to be upgraded to the latest firmware as part of the car prep (the request was on my invoice). It was ignored, and it was on the same version as yours when I took delivery. I called them up and asked them why they hadn't done it, and they pushed back. Took the car in for it's first MOT a couple of weeks ago, and requested the firmware update again when I booked - when they called to let me know it was ready, I asked them to confirm and they said it hadn't been, done. In the end, I got a bit shirty, and they kept it in over night and updated the firmware the next day. It's ridiculous that it takes so much pushing, but when I questioned the dealer she did say that because the firmware update process is so slow (3 hours, apparently) and they only have a 2-3 of the expensive units to do it, if they did every car whenever it came into the dealer they'd never get through them all. Pretty poor excuse, but I can see the practicalities of it.
