    Hi
Im a newbie to this site, Im after a Quattro A6 estate so got to be Avant or Allroad, I'm looking for power, comfort and economy, which is best way to go. And why are mpg figures so different from Avant to Allroad.

    Thanks

Can't answer for an Allroad, but I've got an 02 plate A6 Avant Quattro 2.5 V6 TDI 180Bhp and both the comfort and power are very good. The engine is a bit lacking in power until you get the revs over 1500 in the lower gears, but once up to speed in 6th it will pull fine even from around 1400 rpm. As for economy, mine will return an average of 35 mpg on longer journeys (about all it's used for these days) but gets a bit thirstier if use around town.

I think the Allroad is a bit heavier, which would account for some of the lower mpg figures.

What model are you looking at?

    I have a C7 A6 Allroad, the first I've owned, and it's absolutely brilliant.

I would have bought an avant were they available in Australia, but the only ones imported in C7 model are 2WD with CVT transmissions and 4 CYL engines.

Now Audi Australia have dropped the A6 Avant completely because the low spec avant didn't sell. The only one you can get now is the Allroad but with the lowest spec 160KW engine. Once again Audi Australia have completely misjudged the market. Luckily mine has the European mid spec 180KW engine.

Having now owned an Allroad, I'd certainly get another. I love the practicality of soft roading one minute, quick wash, and off to high tea. It's an awesome machine.

If I had the choice you have in Europe I would go for the Allroad with the BiTurbo mill.

If you're after a diesel is best to look for the allroad built after 2003 engine code BAU, it has the later cam roller engine which is slightly more economical compared with early AKE. Be aware they do a lower power 163Bhp allroad also with the cam roller engine, they are usually lower spec and very slow compared with the 180 Bhp. You can map them to over 200 Bhp and with the right mix of parts- 300 Bhp is within reach ! If you decide to tune your v6 tdi then let me know, i had a 300 Bhp a6 quattro as a daily: s4 power with diesel economy- it drank over 1 L less fuel per 100Km than standard... Early AKE engines were prone to cam wear but on the allroad they had a 3 plunger pump which makes them ripe for tunning: 700 Nm of torque is available from 2000 rpm's which makes for a very quick daily driver !

I've just got myself an allroad, has the 2.7t v6 only downside is its mated to the auto box. Makes for a nice lazy drive but lacks a little go off the line. I find the auto a little lazy when changing. It has done over 100k though so maybe time for a re fresh. Overall really nice car like you say capable and give her a clean it down classy too.
