I've been reading how disaster may strike if mismatched tyres are used on Quattro.

I believe that the pre-facelift C6 quattro is a Torsen T-2 system with 50:50 split(?), as opposed to the later 40:60 split.

Does this really mean that I'm limited to the same make, model and tread depth at all corners or risk needing a new diff'??

I have one front near limit, other at 5.0mm (possible tracking issue), and rears at 4.0mm.

    Would two new fronts hurt?

If so, it's Hobson's choice, eBay hunt for x1 needle in a haystack or x4 new tyres.

Is the system really that sensitive?

Two new fronts wont hurt, as long as the tyres on the same axle are the same you're fine.

Just because I'm a moderator doesn't mean I know anything lol

But anyway, you're fine with 2 new fronts.

Depends on your funds, practicality also. I had a misalignment which has led to one of my Michy PSS's wearing on the edge where all others had 5mm, just bought another of the same brand partworn with 5mm and changed the single tyre, all in £60!

I wanted to solve it that way too, but after weeks of looking for a relatively recent (to match the others) part-worn P-Zero Rosso, with no damage, repairs etc,
I've nearly run out of time now. Pity, as I'm a tight wad like you too!

Easy decision as I'd always choose a part worn quality tyre over an hokey coke 3000 Chinese death trap

Agreed would rather have a good branded tyre on the car with 5mm, rather than fedral family killers...

Interestingly if you read the manual then Audi state that all tyres (on quattro) should be the same make and have similar amount of tread, to avoid damage to the diffs/drive-train
