    Hi All,

Just bought an A6 S-Line avant 2011; I think its the C6 facelift model (registered in April 2011) and I want to update the maps / sat nav / MMI. The car came with the 2011 DVD (which has MMI 3G Europa version 2011 on it) and the actual satnav / /car screen comes up with the following versions:

    Software Version:
    BNav_EU_P0054_D1
    Nav. database version:
    4G0919884J ECE 5.12.4

I've done a bit of searching and it sounds like i need to get the MMI updated as well as the maps, but I'm not really sure how much if any I can do without getting Audi involved. Is there a quick easy list of instructions / guide / links somewhere to follow? Thanks,

    That's the Nav firmware version.

You can purchase the cars MMI SD cards from Audi, depends whether you have SD card slots and MMI basic or high?

Someone with more knowledge than I will be along soon to give a definitive answer but I think you will find that the maps can only be updated by Audi that register your new maps disk with Audi in Germany(it cannot be moved to a different car should you part-ex at a later date). Its not cheap though at about £200. If you are going to go ahead and get the map update then they will upgrade the software for free as part of the job.
The new maps for 2016 come out in March and I'm thinking of upgrading my 2010 ones then but thats because I like to be able to use the built in sat nav. In reality buying an off the shelf unit (TomTom or simialr) will give a far better sat nav experience than that of the in-built one.

According to the software version, he has basic version. It can be updated even with DVD.

There are some sites on which you can find maps and activation files. But, personally, I would not go to update alone if I am not 100% sure in procedure of updating and installing the maps. You have to updated the software, then you have to install the maps and then you have to unlock the maps and navigation. If any of these steps goes wrong, there is a good possibility to kill MMI and it is not worth doing it.

I saw on the net also some companies which are selling these maps and files and giving you instruction how to update but I think that nobody will guaranty if something goes wrong.

I have read a lot of about it, and you need days and days to determinate which software version is for your car, which maps are for your MMI, which activation files are for your MMI and if you get wrong file and start procedure then you are on good way to brake it.

My advise is, if you are not so much familiar with updates, to find some reliable company to do it for you or to go to Dealer (even dealer must know how to do it, but at least they are responsible if something goes wrong).

As far as I have read, for entire work it needs at least 3-4 hours. During this period the car must be connected to battery charger or running all the time and nothing must be used (like power windows, moving the steering, lights, BC etc) during update because the electrical current must be steady otherwise it can stop update and kill MMI. So the risk is enormous.

The 3G Basic (NO HDD) takes about 30min to update the firmware & about a couple on minutes for the maps (As they are not copied to the HDD) but it's best to connect a battery charger to the terminals under the bonnet (Do not connect to the battery) You just need to leave the car while the update is taking place but opening & closing windows etc will not disrupt the update.

BNav_EU_P0054_D1 is very much out of date (2009/2010) the last version I know about for the 3G system is BNav_EU_K_0257 EU. Also the current version of the 2015 maps is 4G0-919-884-Q ECE 5.20.4

I would not pay to get these updates from ebay or one of the site that are charging for the updates, as people have already said they won't help if things go wrong, they take your money and you take your chances. All of the update files are available to download without paying a penny and there are plenty of instructions on how to update the systems, and these are the same files that these sites/ebay are charging for, just they spent time looking for them.

If you are willing to spend a few hours with google and reading some of the sites you will get all the information you will ever need, if you cannot be bothered and just dive in then replacement 3G 5F modules can be had off ebay for around £500 or £2000 from a dealer!

Mine has a DVD reader, 2 SD slots, and a 6 disc changer taking up the entire glove box - how can I tell if that's the basic or high?

I don't think mine has an HDD as the satnav stops working as soon as I take the DVD out, and I haven't seen any options about copying any data to the HDD while using the MMI.

Yeah, its pretty out of date and I'd like to get something a bit more recent.... for free if I can!

Could you help me out with a link..?! feel free to PM me if the forum moderators wouldn't like it published here!

2 more questions I have after playing around a bit with the car:

    1. Can I copy the existing satnav DVD I have to an SD card a use it from there?
    2. I can't see any way to play music from my phone connected via bluetooth to the car - will upgrading the MMI firmware allow this, or is the only way to play music through the MMI to buy an AMI cable?

    Thanks!

As someone who lives in a reasonably rural area I was surprised to find that new roads completed in 2008 weren't on the 2012 version when I changed mine and see no real difference/practicality with 3D view in areas without buildings.

    1) I would suggest copying your satnav disc anyway as a back-up but do not believe you can copy/use the data from the SD card slot
    2) Do you have anywhere to plug the other end of the cable to in your car, surely the easiest way would be to copy your toonz from your phone to an SD card?

Yeah I can do that, but I'd like to be able to stream from padora etc on my phone direct to the car through bluetooth or use the stuff on my phone if possible.
