question having a issue with my 2004 VW Golf GT MK5 FSI 2.0, The problem is that i was driving my car and the engine check light came on, i drove safely home and disconnect the battery terminal for a few mins and hen check to see if the light was still on, the light came off so i assumed all was well.
Then there after i heard a hounding sound coming from the right rear area after closing the door, after door close i am still hearing the sound and then to my surprise i realize that it i the fuel pump that was making the noise, so after a few mins i realize the pump is still activated even when the key is out of the ignition.

This issue only occured after i took the car to have a airbag fault light on the dashboard removed and checked with a diagnostic scanner , i purchased the car with that light on, and now the car would not start or rev above 3000 rpm before cutting.

What could be the cause, could it be faulty fuel pump?
What about the fuel control moduel is stuck?
Would it be low pressure sensor?

    Any help would be appreciated

Why did you disconnect the battery? The main result of this is that the cars computer loses its learnt values and throttle valve adaptation so it has to start learning all over again and be set up on a diagnostic system, NEVER disconnect the battery unless you have to AND you have the equipment to reset the engine management system afterwards. You have just had the car scanned so why no engine fault code report? Yes it is likely that the lift pump is faulty, it is a common problem on what is (in the UK) a very uncommon car but NOTHING should be replaced with proper diagnostic analysis first.

Thanks Crasher for responding to my question the only reason why i took the battery terminal off was because the pump stays on even though the key is not in the ignition, so i just didn't want the battery to run down, i am trying to get someone to scan the car for me again, where am living not many persons are familar with this type of vehicle.

For the fuel pump to keep running, the fuel pump relay must be closed, what is the cars engine type code such as AXW?

In the dash side fuse box, fuse 27 MUST stop the fuel pump from running no matter what but I need to know if removing fuse 29 stops it running with the ignition off? If it still runs with fuse 29 removed, you need to replace the fuel pump control unit which is on top of the pump, part number 1T0 906 093 G

Hey again Crasher, i checked the inside fuse box and search for the #27 and #29 fuses both fuses are in the fuse holder could u tell me what amperage should both fuses be?
Also when i took out the fuse # 29 the pump still stays on with the ignition on but the pump is working as it should inside the fuel pump.
Question to you is where can i find a wire diagram for the fuel pump control module unit and also the fuel pump wire diagram so that i can trace the wires to see if an wires are damaged or something, could the drivers door sensor also contribute to having the pump engage even when ignition is on, due to the fact that when opening the drivers door the fuel pump is priming the fuel, also there is no relay in the engine bay fuse box so i assume that the relay would be in the control module i may be wrong with that assumption but u can correct me if u can, hope to get another reply from soon,

    Thanks again kevin

The command to run the pump is sent by the On Board Supply Control unit using CAN data from the Convenience system when the drivers door is opened. Ignore what I said about fuse 29 until I can look at the diagram I have at work which was different.

hello again do u have a wiring diagram for the fuel moduel control unit,if u do could u send it to me if possible or direct me to where i can get a service manual online to help me with any issues i may face with the 04 VW Golf MK5 GT FSI.
There is power in the plug connector that is giving direct current to the fuel pump, but i am trying to locate the specific wire that opens the circuit to transfer the current to the pump to let it come on and to come off.
Also i realize that the fuel gauge on the dash is not moving when ignition is turn on or ignition is off, am wondering if this has something to do with the sender unit not working on fuel level is too low, if u have a email i can send a pic of the plug and wires to maybe be of more help, but i cant thank u enough for the help u have given me so far.
