    You can get your HVAC system reset to default with VCDS which is what I presume your VAG indie has.
    The "official" dealer diagnostic tool is called VAS

    If they've already performed a VCDS scan that you've paid for then get a copy (it's called an Autoscan -- it's a short text file so they can email it to you) If you post it here then we all can see what's being reported as faults. Pointless guessing as this heater fault could be anything from faulty flaps, to something dropped down the grills or windscreen vents to an actual electrical fault.

    Any old scanner won't do either

    Check for any dampness around front footwells? Would indicate water ingress that might have got behind dash

    I suppose if he does it for you and you don't own a high temp soldering iron and have any silver solder than I suppose that is reasonable but I would still rather buy my own thermals from RS for about 80p.....
