    Hi

I have a 1.9 TDi 2004 (MK4) VW Bora ASZ (Engine) and I have been informed my the mechanic that my ECU is faulty and will require to be changed.

Does anyone local to Leicester now how to recode a ECU, or a good repair centre or is selling a De-mobilised ECU with P/N 038 906 019 KJ

    Rgds,

    Tej.

It is almost unheard of for those to fail. 038 906 019 KJ is a widely used VAG group ECU from the Golf, Bora, Octavia and Leon so should be easy to find on fleaBay, there are quite a few on there and some have been immobiliser deleted, which isn't a bright idea. There are a few mobile chaps who go around swapping the immo data on the EDC 16.

i dont know whats up with your car as i don't have the knowledge to fix it, so i will look all clever and condemn the ecu. then when that doesn't work, and you are a few more hundred quid out of pocket, i will condemn the new ecu, and keep doing this until you go somewhere else.... or in the hope you scrap the car... god i wish i knew more about fault codes..

Thanks Crasher for the reply and I've had a look on FleaBay, but its the reprogramming side I will wait for a reply on before I take that route.

    Zollaf,

I have spent ££ trying to find a fix for my limp mode and as Crasher stated ECU are very rare to become faulty, but on this case the Technician has done all the electric checks and finally swapped out he ECU with his mates one for test purposes and concluded that its the ECU at fault and once again even the Technician couldn't believe it from his 10 year span at a VAG garage. Once again getting hold of a second hand part is not a problem, but getting it recoded is what I need to look into.

so with all the faults cleared its fine for a bit, then goes into limp and all 4 of these codes come up the instant it goes into limp.. has someone looked at the computer as its gone into limp or has a data logger been used to see whats happening..

Not 100% sure but I will say NO to your question RE 'looked at computer' and 'data logger'

Now funnily enough I did have one many years ago and helped I think two people on forums, with a similar issue. I can't remember the ladies name or her reg number but it was a late 2003 Golf 4 TDI BUT it was the 100PS model with the ATD and this was generated 5 codes which were similar to yours. It is a shame I can't remember her name as I could look up her reg number and open her code read file so you could see the codes. I came across two other people with the same problem and a new ECU was the cure but all were ATD engines. What we did in those days (and with her car) was buy a used ECU and drive the car to VW with the wipers and scuttle trim off and ask them to swap the ECU, it was by no means silly money but it was a while ago. I found the faults would come and go by flexing the ECU plug up and down, I even tried soldering all the joints on the board but it did not help.
