    Hi

I'm currently experiencing a REV (RPM) Counter needle moving as if I was driving an Automatic car.

If I'm to put my foot down in most gears the RPM needle will act is if I was putting my foot down in an automatic car, it jumps from RPM 2000 to 3000

I've scanned the car with VagCom (full version) but nothing has come up and no engine management light either to display that there is a issue.

I feel I may have a hole is one of the pipes/hoses, so my question is, what test can be carried out using VagCom or another form.

I have recently had the ecu replaced, but will try and refit the original and see if I'm experiencing the same issue.

    Thanks in advance

Do you mean the revs go up disproportionally to rise in road speed?
If that's the case, i reckon the clutch is slipping.

    Hi Rob

Thanks for the quick reply, My car is a 2004 plate, 1.9 TDi 130bhp ASZ Engine and currently has 202598 miles. Yes If I put my foot down the RPM goes up disproportionately if the clutch is slipping does that mean I would need a new clutch kit? also what other things could I look out for to determine that its the clutch that will require replacing.

Yes, also you might ( might not as well) notice a bit of a burning smell, like hot brakes, and difficulty selecting gear, it will likely get worse pretty quickly as well, so get a second opinion and budget for the work sooner rather than later. Most folks recommend a new dual mass flywheel as wellas the clutch kit, as the flywheels are prone to fail at higher miles and you only want to get it done once.

since you have been driving with a slipping clutch for some time, the extra heat this creates will almost certainly mean you need a new dmf as well.

Over the weekend I changed the ECU around and drove the care for 5 miles (as it was getting dark) and there was no slipping of REV's (RPM), I have changed over to the new used ECU and within driving I could feel the RPM slip. I have got in touch with the sellers of the ECU, but waiting a reply. Question is do I still go ahead and get my Clutch and DWF (CSC) changed? I have been quoted the £600 mark in Leicester, if anyone can suggest an alternative within Leicester along with a better price. I'm hear and waiting.

£600 isn't the worst price I've ever heard for clutch and DMF change. Should still get it done. Shouldn't slip. Period. Ecu shouldn't matter. Unless of course it's tuned mapped and nuclear gas turbine supercharged

Park the car on a hill, apply handbrake

Put car in 3rd gear and try to take off

The car should stall , alls well with clutch

If car revs quite high and does not stall, or attempts to move then the clutch is slipping.

Good method, but be warned. A colleague had symptoms of clutch and DMF failure at about 96k and did the above method. Finished his DMF there and then haha. Wasn't a vw though was a mondeo....

    But be wary..
