I have just had two worn engine mounts replaced on my 1998 Passat tdi.

Prior to the replacement I had not noticed any unusual noise or excessive vibration.
Regretfully since the engine mounts were replaced the car now vibrates, is far noisier and has a sort of droning noise - all when idling. The glovebox door now vibrates when open, vibration can be felt through the passenger footwell and seat. Opening/closing the front doors when stationery also seems to have an effect on the noise/vibrations.
Would anyone have ideas on what has happened to cause this ?

Hi. I do not know the manufacturer as the mounts were fitted by a garage which is not a vw dealership and the mounts would not be genuine vw.

i would just take it back to the garage. they have probably fitted some inferior, dubious origin mounts that have upset the ying of your car. genuine mounts would be more expensive , probably but would restore the smoothness. maybe they have used good mounts but not fitted them correctly.

They can take a while to 'settle in' sometimes, but if it isn't to your liking I would think you have every right to take it back to the supplying garage.

did they replace all the mounts at the same time, if not you might have the new mounts working with older soggy mounts and transferred more of the vibration onto the older mounts, if you see what i mean - as Zollaf said - upsetting the Ying of the car. just a thought.

Hi. Apparently only the front mounts were replaced. The car is back at the garage and the new mounts are being adjusted, so I will see what the result is.
