Inevitably the BiTdi and ZF box was discussed and one poster commented he'd found an article on a German web site that stated Audi use a modified ZF 8HP55.

Now from what I can gather the original 8HP55 was rated to 550 nm - hence the "55" moniker
An updated version called the 8HP55A was released and rated at 650 nm
And a further modified version - the 8HP55AF - rated at 700 nm is what is used in the BiTdi

The text that was pasted into the forum (taken from a German web site) is as follows "ZF 8HP im neuen Audi A6, A7 (4G) 3.0 TDI 230kW/313 PS - 8HP-55AF - bis 700 Nm mit selbstsperrenden Kronenradmittendifferenzial"

Still not sure this is concrete but it does seem more plausible.
Out of interest, what was the consensus on remapping the 245bhp re torque limits on the S tronic box? I was planning on getting mine done in the near future

    Which gearbox is that?

The Audi S-Tronic boxes (NOT the ZF autos):

DQ250 was original six-speed one for transverse FWD upto 350Nm torque output.
DQ200 is seven-speed one for transverse FWD upto 250Nm torque output. It used dry clutches (instead of the DQ250's wet clutches) and had considerably less oil capacity. DQ200 was meant to be the replacement for the DQ250 (as it had an extra gear etc). DQ200 had worldwide recalls in 2013.
DQ500 is seven-speed one for transverse FWD upto 500/600Nm torque output. It was for higher performance engines (TT-RS was the first) and went back to using wet clutches.
DL501 is seven-speed one for longitudinal Quattro upto 600Nm torque output. It uses wet clutches (with larger plates than ever before) and now for the first time has two totally separate oil circuits.

DL501/0B5 S-Tronic is what's in my petrol C7. The DL501 is the latest incarnation of the S-Tronic IIRC and is the first to use two separate oil systems inside of it. Audi classify it as the "seven-speed", "high torque engine", "Quattro powertrain" model. It's fitted to the B8 S4/S5, the Q5 with 3.0TFSI, and the A6 with 3.0TFSI Quattro. Don't know what the non-ZF A6 diesels use. Other than an occasional mechatronic unit replacement for jerky gearshifts, they're pretty reliable.

Mine's currently running 470PS and 600NM absolutely fine after I had my C7 3.0TFSI remapped. Rolling road plot here: Biturbo sports diff - Page 2

I considered it (briefly) but decided against it after a getting my 245 tested at a local rolling road. It was putting out considerably more than official figures. I thought it was bs until I saw the figures from a Golf R and then another member took their BiTDI over.

Anyway, I was told the limit for my box was 600NM (supposedly over that already ) so I would recommend you get your car tested first then make your decision. I’m sure there is a reason they go for the Tiptronic in the BiTDI though

    Thanks for the replies. I assume mine is a DL501 as its a it's a 2012 A7 quattro 7 speed.

I might get tested on a RR just to get some base figures, then go from there I guess.

Erm, because they charge for it maybe
