I have just checked the VIN number of my Golf Mk 7 EA288 Mar 2013 1.6 TDI SE with BMT on the Volkswagen UK website and it shows that it is not affected by the emissions issues. It would appear that Eur 5 EA288 engines are also ok , not just the Eur 6 version.

Thanks. My wife has a 2015 1.6TDi with BMT Match, so based on your car it looks like that is also not affected. Will enter the VIN into the website when I get home. Fingers crossed. Over the weekend I started wondering what the difference is between the Euro 5 and Euro 6 versions of that car. Clearly the full fat Bluemotion version which has been Euro6 for some time comes with a 6 speed gearbox, however looking at the brochure there is no discernible difference between the Euro5 and Euro6 versions, same power, same CO2. Does anyone know what they did to make it Euro6?

Didn't think the 1.6 had SCR Urea, maybe I am wrong on that

My son wanted to buy my 2013 1.6TDI with BMT Eur 5 (99 gms CO2 per KM) from me because his parking charges in Milton Keynes were based on CO2 emissions. £460 for his current Mk4 petrol versus £75 for the 99gms Mk7 . I hesitated on this because of the uncertainty on what would happen if VW emissions were upgraded from 99 gms/km to above 100 gms/km . On Saturday evening I entered the VIN number of the Mk 7 (EA288 engine) into the VW UK website and found that it was not affected by the emissions "scandal" issues. I have today purchased a new Golf Match 1.6TDI BMT EUR6 from my local dealer where I have had a long standing relationship and was offered without haggling a £1600 discount on the list price of £22500.
I appreciate this very much as I have a long standing relationship with the dealer and will continue to support VW who I am confident will resolve the current technical issues and will remain a very competent car manufacturer.
At this moment I do not know precisely what VW have done to the EA288 engine to upgrade it from EUR5 to EUR6 but I do not believe it involves Urea injection. I may be wrong on this but it does not mean that I will not buy another VW Golf which has served me well from the Mk 2 to the Mk 7.

Checked this evening and as expected from the above the 2015 Euro5 1.6TDi Match is ok

VW stated on Friday that ALL EU6 and all V6 and V8 TDI are exempt from the issue.
