rattling noise when start up

Hi there
Every time i start the A3 up i get some sort of rattling noise coming from within the engine?

This also happen when i press the accelerator can anyone shed a light on how and what this problem is ?

Sounds like the infamous top end oil starvation problem on the 1.8 lump.

What happens is that the oil pick up in the sump gets partially blocked giving rise to reduced oil pressure.

The solution initially would be to change your oil with immediate effect and maybe again in 500 miles time. If that doesn't cure it, then it is a sump off and clean the oil strainer.
