Intermittent start-up failure.

Since last weekend I've found my 2013 2.0 tdi s-line CVT to intermittently fail to start-up, displaying errors across all the system checks e.g. Gearbox malfunction, tire pressure failure, head light fault.

Several cycles of trying to start it fail and the only way it seems to get it going is to leave the car for a minute or so and try again. On one occasion the start-stop failed to re-enage causing it to stop dead at traffic lights.

For now when I can get it going, I've switched off start-start until I can call the garage on Monday to book it in for a scan.

Has as anyone experience anything similar?

If its a 2013 model then you should be able to take it back to the dealer?

Suggest doing that before trying to fix it yourself

I had the exact same issue when my car was a couple of months old. A few errors and intermittent start up then the car completely failed to start - Audi Assist came out and said it was an alternator fault but after the car was inspected by the main dealer it turns out the battery was over heating and subsequently drained.

I'd get your car to a dealer as soon as you can

If you have a good relationship with the dealer then they may get some goodwill if it is a major (ie costly) issue

If you're planning to keep it then buy VCDS to identify faults yourself, min paid for itself in 6 months.

Failing that I am sure there are a few VCDS owners in Essex.

Let us know what your dealer charges for a scan, my nearest two charge £90 & £120 respectively.

You'll already know that the multitronic box must have a fluid change every 40k miles.

Quick update. The failure is more regular now and as of this morning in with the Indi who's maintained it from day one. Unsurprisingly it had pages or errors ( lots of Communication failures messages) but according to them none which give them any clue to what's causing the issue. They did ask me if anyone else had worked on it. I said no but why do you ask. They said it's because it is set as an A8 which they checked with their technical support who said it didn't matter and made no odds.

Anyway, they can see the battery is not giving out the power they'd expect so want to fit a new one and review.

Thought I'd close out this thread in case someone suffers the same symptoms in the future.

replaced battery - genuine Audi battery that needs coding to vehicle
rescanned, replaced brake switch
rescanned, replaced fuel voltage supply relay
updated software - to correct where vehicle thought it was a German left hand drive spec A8 (have got the printouts if anyone wants me to upload)

Quite disappointed that so much can be wrong with a car that's only 3 months over its warranty. Doubt I've got any recourse with the dealer given I've never used them to maintain the car.
