3/4 weeks ago i randomly decided to buy an a6 all road. Going to write this as a bit of a timeline of whats happened so far. Baring in mind this car has only had 110k miles on the clock. Has nearly every mot and has been well serviced. Apart from the last few years where its only covered a few thousand miles.

. Test drive it ran okay. A bit loud. And a bit tappy. The guy told me it needed a new sensor and pointed to the boost pressure converter sensor (n75) (he couldnt speak much english.) My instinct said leave it. But for some odd reason i had faith in this massive chunk of metal i paid 650 quid for.

The drive home was ****. Limp mode at the most akward times. Shortly found how to get it out of limp mode and noticed the pattern of when it would do it. once i hit the motorway it seemed fine.

First thing i done was clean the egr and blanked it.
Followed by a new fuel filter.
It seemed to run a bit better after this boost/acceleration wise. But would still go into limp mode.

got it plugged into vag com after this didnt work and its thrown up some nasty fault codes. But the car doesnt follow many of the symptoms like black smoke. No sign of air in the fuel line ect at the time I'D say the n75 was causing most my problems i have one on order from germany costing 85 quid.
Until the car decided to die yesterday. It ran as it has been for the last week. Then turning into my road put my foot down a bit turbo spooled. Then the car made a pretty chuggy sound. No power what so ever. Put it in neutral it then stalled ( what i found quite odd) but it got outside my house.
Tried to start it up again but it will not start.
Plugged vag com in no new faults. Im pretty lost to be fair. What do you guys think?

    . Here are the results...

Most likely the EDC module on top of the fuel pump is dead.

    Two options;

    New pump

    or

    Refurb the EDC

A new pump would be best but would cost far more than the car is worth. Saying that, I think it is worth spending as these will soon start increasing in value as they are getting rarer.

I was thinking this. The fuel pump looks like it has been replaced at some point. It has a yellow mark on the top, Most likely from a breakers, so could well be that.
But other than going into limp mode it's suffered no other symptom that i have read so far. Like black smoke

And yes i have seen the prices they go for i have a how to saved for the refurb

THE ALL ROAD RUNNING COSTS FORMULA

Low mileage nearly new with perfect service history = money pit

15 years old, 100000+ miles, 4 dodgy owners = Greek national debt to the power of 6!

    Hi,
    Not so fast!
I,m not sure what "a pretty chuggy sound" is, but I,m not too convinced it have anything to do with a faulty pump EDC !
Another thing is the ECU will set a code if it cannot communicate with the pump, no such code here .... I would have checked the belts and especially the pump belt and tentioner before jumping wrong conclusions, if nothing wrong make sure
    the Injection Pump have fuel.
Nor the needlelift or a faulty N75 will make the engine stall for never to start again, but a faulty needlelift will prevent the ECU to detect a jumped pump belt...

Have someone to turn the ignition on while you listen to the Injection Pump, if it makes a buzzing sound for a sec. or so after ign. is turned on it's 99 % sure the pump's electronics is fine.

It is impossible to diagnose from the armchair.

But the fact that it died and won't restart points to the EDC module. They are famous for it, same for various Fords and Vauxhalls that have the same bosch pump fitted. I've had first hand experience of this on the Wifes old Astra and once with my brothers car, which happens to be a V6 TDI 4mo Passat with the said same engine the Allroad has. He did the EDC module with no luck and then splashed out on a new pump. He changed the pump on the roadside down in the South of France! I call that dedication. The car now runs as new.

On yours, the ECU may itself be talking to the EDC but the EDC may not be talking to the solenoids it controls. You need to translate those fault codes and carry out some more investigation work.

It'd be a shame to scrap it.

It would be a shame to scrap it but looking online i can get my money back just by selling the seats steering wheel and wheels. Is there a breaking forum here? Also might not have a job for much longer so spending money on this car that might/might not fix it isn't a priority. Feel free to save it if you like?

Over the weekend i didnt touch it. going to have a look now my tools are limited though so probably wont get to far
