Hi , I've got a 08 S-line with the MMI infotainment unit fitted, the problem is, all the illumination in the switches on the left hand side of the unit and the 4 switches around the selector knob has failed .
The question is, is it repairable or a new unit ? I've had a price for unit only £600 plus fitting.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I suppose intimately it depends on why it has failed. Have you spilled anything on it. If it was me I'd spend some time taking it out and seeing if anything was obvious. What you like with a soldering iron?

Thanks for the reply, to be honest I haven't a clue how to get it out, not spilt anything on it, although I did give it a waft over with silicon spray, not much though, not even sure how long I've had the problem as it doesn't get used much at night. I was plumber for 45 yrs, so great with a blowlamp, not too hot with a soldering iron :-)

I've never taken one out but there is guides on the net. I've given mine a soaking of WD40 more than once as I've had a few sticky buttons. Could be worth a squirt?

Everything works perfectly apart from the lights in the switches, don't want to make matters worse :-)

Thanks very much for that, makes it look so easy to remove, looks as though it had been out a few times :-) at least I know to possibly sort out the jammed ash tray now :-)

Not something I would attempt, got an auto electrician to have a look at it. To be honest I like things to be working right, or I would leave well alone :-)
