Has anyone replaced their original Caliper with a TRW ?
Reason i ask is I have a TRW to replace my faulty original but the Brake pipe fitting is different
I guess I either replace the brake pipe fitting (What size ?)
Or do you replace the rear hose with one from a newer model ?

I did do a search but couldn't find that info on the forum

    TIA

TRW supplied the original parts. There are 2 types of replacement TRW EPB calipers each with a different piston diameter and electrical connections. You may have the wrong ones as you should not have to modify anything on the braking circuit be it pipe work or electrical.

The piston diameters are either 41 or 38mm. The 41s are cast iron and the 38s are aluminium calipers. You should replace like for like. The standard rear disc is 282mm.

There are also 41s for bigger rear discs (310mm) that are blue.

    Thanks for that

I've checked out the calipers on Eurocarparts and both of their listings and they both list 38mm Cast iron ??

and having previously purchased one have found the brake pipe fitting smaller than the caliper fitting ??

My mistake I got them in a mucking fuddle! That is correct the 38s are cast iron and fit models up to Dec '08 and the 41s are aluminium.

Mine is also a 2.0 tdi 170 Sport 2007 MY and all I had to do was swap over the calipers as all pipework was fine.

OK Thanks I'll order one from them
my passenger side one has cracked and the motor fell out leaving only the casing bolted to the caliper
I've now got the dreaded Bing..Bing..Bing... although I've noticed it doesn't do it in reverse

    Cheers

So installing a reversing camera and driving backwards solves the problem and is cheaper?? 😂😂

Don't forget the extra5 code to reduce the price. Also make sure you have the calipers wound off using VAG Com / VCDS before you push the piston back or you could damage the brake module which is £££s. Need it after installation also, to wind them back on.

I take it you replaced the left caliper? If not the other one has a problem. The voltages are very low.
When you changed your caliper did you...
    1. Have a battery charger connected while the engine was off and throughout the process?
    2. Perform the correct wind off procedure with VCDS using Basic Settings (there is also an adaptation option on VCDS for later B6 models that winds off the brake fully, invokes an EPB fault code in the Brake Module with EPB fault light on the dash, then clears the fault code and EPB fault light once you have performed the adaptation routine a 2nd time after the parts have been replaced otherwise you repeat the Basic Settings procedure)? IF YOU DON'T DO THIS AND WIND / FORCE THE OLD CALIPER PISTON BACK YOU CAN DAMAGE THE BRAKE CONTROL MODULE.
    3. Checked the wiring to the caliper and ensured the connectors are tight and have clicked together?

Try performing a terminal 30 reset of EPB control module.

    • Switch ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect battery.
    • Wait at least 10 seconds and reconnect battery.
    • Switch ignition ON.
    • While pressing brake pedal, operate electronic parking brake twice.
    • Read fault memory. Faults should be sporadic and therefore possible to delete.
    • Delete fault memory

If this does not work try clearing the fault codes when the engine is running to maintain the voltage level and then press the EPB button at 5 sec intervals.

If no joy then there is a brake control module problem or a wiring issue somewhere.

I too have the "B" version controller.
Flash Update Protects EPB Control Module
This link for a US Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is for the EPB controller flash update US recall. I've had it installed in the UK, but you have to pay. A VAG-trained indi workshop with VAS computer that connects to VW’s mainframe will charge one hour +VAT — typically £60 +VAT (Volks Autos, Sutton). VW main agent (Beadles, Sevenoaks) wanted two hours. This software update is relevant only to specific versions of EPB controller:
    http://nateronline.com/Technical_Bul...park_brake.pdf
It’s a two-stage EPB controller FlashROM update. It changes the way the controller reports under voltage conditions.

Ok I've tried all of the options Dmitch16, thanks for them
I put a meter on the connector at the Caliper and when the button is pressed get nothing ??
I think I'm going to try and get a new/another controller
Are there any issues with fitting one, Recoding etc ?
and where on the car is the EPB controller

    TIA
