Hopefully someone can point me to a place to purchase this part to sort it

I was washing the car... as you do i took the engine cover off to wash it.. i used a screw driver to lift the other top plastic out.. boom slipped

I managed to knock the fuel pressure rail sensor(what i now know is).. and well 80% of it came out! i stupidly thought hmm.. mistakes happen and knocked it back in (snapping but of plastic in process) - so yeah i bodged it back in

Thoght nothing of it intill i turned car on.. car fires and sounds normal.. i have a yellow engine light on now and car seems to stop power at 3K revs (seems to be down on power)

Here is a picture of what i wacked! the bent up plug with silver end.. basically nearly the whole plug came out from the silver end.. so i would guess thats where the errors triggered from

Im hoping someone can point me to a place to purchase this sensor.. to hopefully bolt off and on (looks like the is a nut on one side) and im hoping it will resolve this.. i read the error with VCDS and it says:

004499 - Fuel Pressure Sensor (G247) - open or short to plus - MIL on

Please someone tell me this is a bolt on and off job.. and hopefully a part thats cheap!

    Car is a Audi A6 C6 2.7 TDI 2005

anyone got a link? part number (cant see one on it)? somewhere to buy this quick i do a motorway journey for work.. 10-20miles a day not sure how far im gonna get..

    thanks

EDIT: i found the top part of the code for this part.. it started 0281 so i found: BOSCH 0281002504

after a bit of looking around.. i found the part.. prices ranged but i got one for £32 its being delivered tuesday.. hopefully

So the next question.. will the car get me to work monday/tuesday! when i took it out.. the power would cut/limit at 3K revs, engine was warm.. so i think with some careful easy driving it should be ok.. anyone got any experience? i may take it to the local bigger shop (6 miles out with a long country road in) tomorrow this will mimic a bit of stress on engine /same sort of distance

Link:- Item 3 on this diagram

    Check which size you have.

The fuel system will be pressurised, if you've run engine.

Last time I did work on injection system car had been sat for about 12hrs plus and no spurt out of fuel, more of low pressure flow out.

Dunno what torque you have to tighten it to as not got access at moment to info, it's bolt off old and on new. After changeover done it may take a little longer to fire up at first.

Perhaps tomorrow or so can get info or another may post.

Personally if buying the sensor it would either have to be OE make or genuine new.

Check sensor for markings, if you find it's by say Bosch you can use the their online catalogue to search for Bosch P/N against VAG P/N.

    *** edit ***

Looks like you've got the P/N now

Google ssp v6 3.0 cleaner , 3rd hit is a SSP which does have info on G247 and if failed what occurs. I have driven around with mine unplugged for a dual carriage way jaunt when testing something. Didn't need a ride home , so in my book you'd be OK.

I thought all VAG engine covers were "snap on/off" that didn't require the use of tools ?

your right it doesnt.. but i stupidly used a flat head to lift one side.. as mine was caked in leaves/filth and generally hadn't been up in a while and when your leaning over a massive car.. which is slippery with a big flathead.. you slip.. its gonna end badly!

My footing gave way also.. (wet floor) im quite embarrassed i managed to do so much damage just by simply lifting up a cover! (can only happen to me)

30nm is torque setting for sensor tightening.

How it seals is by a deformable sealing lip on sensor.

I have PM'd you some links for ref .
