earlier today my oil light started flashing, and at the same time my rev counter hit 0rpm.
5 minutes prior to this, the handbrake light was stuck on, when the handbrake wasnt on. this problem went away, (the handbrake light turned off, functioned normally)
lots of forums pointed towards obviously checking oil levels, which are fine.
most forums say to check the alternator, its wires etc. the alternator seems fine, when the engine is on, and the car is idling, the battery sits over 14.2v and went all electrics are on (lights, heater..) it maintains 14.1v meaning it is charging the battery fine.
has anyone else experienced this? is it just an electrical problem around the dashboard?

    Welcome to VWAF

Does the oil light extinguish if you rev the engine?

no, it takes about 10 seconds after the car is turned on for the beeper to go off and the light to start flashing, it beeps 3-4 times then stops and the light continues flashing, revving the engine doesnt turn it off. revving the engine doesnt make the rev counter work either

It sounds more like an electrical issue than a mechanical one.

Check the wiring to and from the alternator and then check all the fuses (inside the car and the engine bay).

Yes i think it must be a faulty connection in the electricals, this morning i started my car and everything worked fine, i was shown the correct rpm, and the oil light was not flashing. Strange.
