Ive got a 1.8 t 2001 a3 and when I go over small bumps in the road the front make a little bit of a noise as you would expect. But when the back hits the bump it makes double the noise. Its like ive got really stiff suspension at the back or its hitting the limit.... would this be a shock problem? dont think its the tyre pressure. ive got standard rear suspension.

Any help would be great because ive got know idea because it drives perfectly

    Cheers

Could well be ruined shocks. Never seen this problem before on an Audi, but there is first time for everything!

Could it be the parcel shelf making a noise?

Try removing it and doing it again.

If its front wheel drive then the rear beam axle has bonded rubber bushes at its mounting point to the body they could be knackered, their a nightmare to change so unless you've got the facilities i'd let a mechanic do it for you

Hi, my A3 is the same. Noticed this when I bought it and took it back to garage. They had just got it MOT'd at an independent garage and said the suspension was fine. It only sounds harsh if you go over a ridge or ramp on road which jars suspension, had car 2 years now and no suspension probs, usually only occurs on crap patched up roads round built up area's, no probs on open road. Seem to remember my brothers car was same.

My opinion is it's the rear bush. Quite a common thing to go on an older Audi. The rear passenger side was gone on mine, took a couple of hours to replace but the part itself was cheap. Made all the difference in terms of noise
