Well after 10 months of the A6 Multitronic owning my bank account, I`ve decided its on its way. No sooner do you get one expensive fault cured and another rears its pricey head, the list is as follows:- rear discs and pads, front coil springs (broke), electric fuel pump in the tank, mechanical fuel pump (vp44), timing belts+water pump+tensioners, battery, gearbox ecu reprogramme+gearbox oil change and now the gearbox has given up the will to work correctly, the auto box specialist said that his car park is a graveyard for auto Audi`s, and the age is irrelevant, once they get to 50k, GET RID!!! he has 06 plate Audi`s with caput auto boxes. Advice for any owners is as follows, if the A6 is playing up with poor starting when warm (vp44 pump) not changing gear as they should, eventually the box WILL GIVE UP!!!!. Just get rid before your bank a/c plummits or credit cards max out, The money that`s gone into the A6 could have bought a lot newer car in the long run. Bye Bye, oh the forum is one of the best for advice, well done to all that contribute. :-(

Thank you for this information, my auto gearbox no longer wants to change from 2nd to 3rd, it hangs on for ages before changing, sometimes it just doesn't bother.
We came to the same conclusion, the things mugging us.

I know how it feels, but then thats second hand car and its like a lottery with what you get.
If you can afford to buy a new 30k car thats fine, problem solved.. or £300 a month ish plus deposits?

Unless of course you could down size to say small engined car with very little to go wrong with you could save some money.

I've just paid out £1100 for cam belts, water pump etc. but its only every 6 years so it evens itself out. I've had it for nearly 7 years but get it regularly serviced by a good independent and I never use the G/box in anything other than PR or D.
I'm hoping my 120K model will last me another 10 years.

As with everything in life you get what you pay for ! To be honest they are good cars is just lack of maintenance and expensive labour rates that kill them cars, i had a few allroads and i found them very, very good with little that went wrong ! They can also take loads of abuse and everything that i replace on them is an upgrade... As mentioned above, you either take your pick and pay up to 500 quid a month on a shiny new car or take a gamble and buy a 2nd hand car and save some money for things that go wrong !

£1100 is a lot of money especially when you can get it done with genuine parts for half that amount ! Change the gearbox oil and filter/strayner and it will last a while- use genuine parts though !
