Power steering noise on Audi A4 tdi pd130 2004 model

Hi guys looking for a little help. I recently bought an Audi A4 tdi 2004 with AVF engine code I have noticed recently on startup that there was a whirring noise when steering out my driveway, only seemed to happen when cold but was fine once warm. I decided I should change the fluid so sucked the fluid out the resovoir with a pump and put in new fluid, while having the engine running so it would be clear. topping it up and sucking it out making sure it was all out.

steering seems fine when just moving steering left to right, but when I drive it I hear a slight noise when turning right. Left seems ok. I have tried bleeding it with cap off etc but it still does it. Anyone have any ideas, is my pump goosed ?

Could be you pulley on the alternater common problem on the Audi b6

There is a new pulley on it but I think it may be aftermarket. Do I need to take the belt off to test the pulley

Is there any difference in the steering has it got heavier is the fluid level ok the pulley is a one way clutch pulley you need a special spline tool to take the pulley off the alternater and yes the belt has to come off get it checked out but if you do the pulley I would do the tensioner at the same time

You can test it in situ,look through the alternator vents you'll see the fan blades it should turn one way and lock the other,almost certain to be bad.

Just checked the alternator. I put in a screwdriver and it will only turn one way as it should. I take it the pulley is working ok. Does this indicate the pump is goosed

If its turning looks like its ok,is the tensioner jumping round excessively,get someone to operate the car lock to lock and observe.
