As the per the title, when the screen retracts back into the dashboard sometimes it Judders.

has anyone else had this problem?

my car is still under warranty - but would the problem be classed as wear and tear- IE one of the parts of the mechanism is "Worn"

    cheers

Not normal that imo. Get it back to audi and tell them it needs fixing. Stick to your guns and say you would not expect that.

Are you definitely sure no one has forced it?

No one has forced it....Bought the car from main Audi dealer a few months ago and it's just started doing it (from time to time)

Back to main dealer then and ask for it to be fixed. They will probably see no issues fixing that

Seen posts from others with similar issues with their MMI screen and had it fixed under warranty. If it is intermittent best thing would be to try and video it happening so you can show the dealer

Had exactly the same issue on my 2011 A6. It was a known fault with the mechanism.

Have a look at this thread:

    Juddering MMI screen

    Mine was fixed under warranty.

I have the same issue myself. It seems to be on the right hand side. Wasn't sure if it would be a warranty item but will make the call now.
