    Hi all,

Had my car a couple of weeks now, and I'm having to use my old iPod Classic for music into the MMI using the 30pin adapter cable.

Is there a way I can connect my iPhone 6 to the MMI via the MMI port in the centre console and the MMI see it as an iPod?

I've tried connecting it via the MMI Usb adapter and a lightning cable, but it doesn't see anything.

I can connect by bluetooth, but that is quite frustrating to control and select albums/playlists whilst driving as I have to unlock the phone.

I'm also trialling Apple Music on my iPhone so would prefer to manage my whole music library rather than just the tracks I own which are on the iPod.

I did go into my local dealer to try out one of the many lightning adapters they had, but all of them reported an incompatible device.

I've already mentioned in another thread that Audi refuse to acknowledge there are any software updates for my MMI and blamed my phone for my current Dash Sim vs handset issues.

My iPhone is running iOS 8.4.

My local dealer was Maidstone Audi which seem a little close minded to updating my car's software. Other dealer nearby to me is East Kent Audi near where I work. Does anyone have any experience of whether they'd be more likely to listen to me?

    Thanks

My pre-facelift car with standard (sd card) sat nav worked fine with both my iPhone 5 and 6 using the ami 30 pin lead and apple's 30pin to lightening adaptor. Third party ones do not work as you need the analogue digital converter included in the apple one. I suspect that is also why you cannot get it to work using the ami usb cable. My new (facelift) a6 again with the standard sat nav works fine with an iPod 6 and the ami lightening cable. When you tried at the dealer was it with the yellow collar ami cable. The previous green one did not work properly

    Hmmm that's a possibility.

So you can access your iPhone as an iPod through the media hub and change tracks/playlists from the main screen or dash screen?

When I was at the dealer the parts guy had three cables to try. A white one, yellow and a green one if memory serves. None of them worked.

What version of the software are you running in either of your cars?

    Cheers

The previous car (2012) was running RMC_EU_P11474 and my new car (2015) is running RMC_EU_P14321, however based on your other posts you have the 3G+ system so these version numbers will not be that relevant. However as far as I know the previous car never received a software update and it always worked fine. As I said above I never bought a Lightening cable for the old car but used the 30pin cable with Apple's adaptor. If Apple Music works in the same way as Spotify you may only be able to use the service by streaming music over Bluetooth as the AMI only looks for music in the iTunes music folder on the iDevice

I've just ordered a 30pin to Lightning adapter from Apple. I did have an "adapter" which is obviously not genuine and didn't work.

When it gets here I'll give it a try.

You may be right about the folders and apple music. You do have the option to save the music to the phone, so that might get around that, and its an 128gb phone so should be plenty of space for the albums and playlists I have.

    Thanks for your help!

Further to this, a mate just tried his iPhone 6 plus and that was recognised by the car so it seems Apple music is the culprit somehow.

Wondering if iOS 8.4.1 has fixed this as issues with Apple Music are one of the claimed fixes

Well it turned out this wasn't an apple music related problem. It was my handset.

I've had it replaced by Apple over the weekend for a couple of issues and now it works as it should in the car when connected to the mmi.
