Dont know if i have posted in the right place, but here goes. I just recently purchased an 02 passat 130 se. I want to change the tape deck unit ( gamma ) but want to keep the cd player below it in place until i can afford a double din unit. The problem is i want to keep the cd player light up when the lights come on at night does anyone know what wires to add a positive connection to allow this to work. Also what speaker size will fit front and back, are the door cards easy to take off in these.

What do you plan to use in place of the Gamma unit? You can usually buy adaptors to keep the factory CD player working so there's no need to worry about wire splicing etc.

Speakers are 6.75" front and back - 17cm fits nicely but may need an adaptor

Door cards are fairly easy to remove - from memory (a little sketchy maybe)

All except driver's door - prise off the small cover over the grab handle and undo the screw. Open the door and undo the two screws under the door - pull the door card up and out being careful to disconnect any wires/plugs/door handle cables

Driver's door - prise off inner grab handle, lift switch unit up, undo screw there and under the door and the rest is the same as above.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

17cm speakers front and rear and yes you will need adapter brackets, cant see you being able to run the VW CD changer off the aftermarket headunit as it is controlled by the headunit you are removing.

I take by your user name you are based in Northern Ireland,If so call up to Sound In Motion, we have a shop in Antrim and one in Campsie near Londonderry, have some good deals on at the minute on kenwood Double din units.

im actually not far from antrim i live in lisburn and will for sure call up at some time, do you work in any of the specific locations. im in 2 minds what sort of speakers to replace the existing ones was thinking of a set of infinity components in the front the same for the rear but want something very easy to hide with regards a sub. or even if i can get a set of speakers in the back doors which are deep and bassy that i can do with out a sub.

Hope you guys know what i mean.

until i can afford a double din unit does any one know what wires to add power to in the single disc factory cd player below where i plan to put the replacement cd player. I want the lighting to work when i switch the lights on.

I don't know about pioneer, but Blaupunkt do an adapter to get the dash changer to work with their head units, it's not cheap though at £50.

Andy I work in the antrim store although I'm in Campsie for the next two weeks. For good sound would recommend JL Audio VR components up front and set of TR co-axials in the back. To be honest you need to put a sub in to get low down bass a set of speakers just won't give you proper sub bass. its something we can discuss when you call up.
