MMI / AMI software

Hola,

I have 2010 A4 and recently called Audi to book it in for a service. I've not had it serviced with them over past couple years but wanted to take it in for an inspection service with the hope of MMI software being updated. I've noticed the AMI doesn't pick up iPhone 4s and I think later models with new cable, not tried but assume same. The dealer said they don't have any MMI updates for my model but can try latest one available but it's at my own risk as it wasn't designed for a car my age.

So two questions

1) Has anyone with a 2010 or earlier used the latest iPhones with AMI successfully?

2) Do Audi stop updating software on older models as soon as new one comes out? Suppose it makes sense as most companies stop supporting older 'things' at some point... What about Sat nav maps, do people have to live with older maps after a few years? I know a map update is different to MMI but assume it's the same...

N.B I've stuck Audi as they had offer for 2 services at 299 so cheaper than my indi...

What version of MMI do you have? 2G or 3G? If you have 3G you can check what software version you have by pressing SETUP and RETURN buttons at the same time.
