I,ve just acquired a Passat TDI Estate with the BXE engine that has had the very common Conrod failure. It hasnt put the conrod through the side of the block but caused some minor damage to crankshaft. The bearing journal was unaffected by this but unfortunately the previous owner removed parts 6 months ago and there is now surface rust on just half of the bearing journal. Ist question is whether this is terminal or not, and if I were to replace engine with a BKC engine, what would need recoding.
