has the car got central locking ? try putting a screwdriver in the latch hole on the boot door (which is visible when the the boot is open )if the lock is ok it will grab the screwdriver if it doesn't it could be the lock motor has broken, when you open the boot can you hear a motor when you lift the handle?if not the lock motor has broken or a link has come off either way you will have to remove the plastic panel from the boot door to asses what has happened, or the latch wants adjusting on the boot floor slacken off the 2 screws (do not remove them) adjust the latch then retighten hope this helps

I am assuming that you dont have a locking problem, but it culd be that the latch into which the latch in the boot door locks into could be out of line with the door latch. You might find that it has moved (probably) forwards meaning that the door is not engaing properly?

Thanks for your answers. I took the panel and lock mechanism out and re-lubicated it and it seems to be fine. I guess the grease had dried out or some grit or rubbish had got into the mechanism. It did play up last year but seemed cured by WD-40. I wonder if that actually made it worse being too thin a lubricant and have used thick grease this time.

    Thanks again
