    Hi,

We have a C5 A6 Avant, and have noticed (like several others, according to Google!) that water is leaking into the footwell on the passenger side. Thanks to youtube, I have been able to get into the area under the windscreen and drain several litres of water after unblocking the troublesome plugs. I also removed the one nearest the pollen filter as a last resort.

The trouble is, even after a couple of warm days and a visibly dry chamber, water has still managed to leak in - always on the centre console side, rather than the door side. Is there some other place where water can gather and leak in? I know the pollen filter seal can perish, but I assumed that this would only really come into play when there is water in the plenum chamber.

    Grateful for any suggestions!

n.b. ours is a LHD model (we live in Germany), but from what I have seen it's simply a mirror image of the UK model in terms of layout.

Had this problem way back with my 2002 Allroad. It IS the pollen filter seal that has gone. In those days, Audi serviced my car and they said they had to replace the whole pollen unit casing - so beware if not doing the job your self. On the subject of the drain plugs, get the battery out, clean the drain holes and plenum chamber and then tape a piece of mosquito net (or similar) along the full length of the base of the plenum chamber. The drain holes will no longer get blocked and the whole mosquito net needs to get blocked before water will not drain from the chamber. I did this several years ago and never had a problem since.

try running your car without using the air con and see if it stops dripping. my recent soggy footwell coincided with a serious downpour so the bung under the battery tray was the first place i checked. i also have a gap between the screen and the scuttle panel which ive yet to replace. after all my efforts it was the air con evaporator drain that was blocked and causing the ingress. you can see the top of the drain on the centre consul side of the footwell which you can see right under the back of the glove box, it has a circular sponge and a black piece of plastic pipe that goes out of sight behind the carpet. you can see all this without removing anything and youll see water dripping of it if it is this that is the cause of your leak.

there are some photos of the guilty part in a thread i started about an hour after you put this one up.

i first checked the battery tray bung, then the pollen filter seal, then the scuttle panel but i suspected it was the evaporator drain from the start.

can you catch any of the water? what colour is it? if its at all dirty id be looking for ingress due to rain, if it is completely clear then it is more likely your evaporator drain that is blocked.

There is also a join for the rear windscreen washer pipe in the passenger footwell area.
