I have a 2.0 TDI Quattro 170 A3 that has been remapped and DPF removed, EGR blanked. should be around the 215bhp mark. The remap (was) absolutely fantastic, it completely transformed the car, even a dab of throttle would shunt me forward and the torque was amazing, so good infact the clutch used to slip in 4th gear (replacing clutch in near future).

Recently however when giving it a bit of beans the car no longer feels as quick as it did, seems like theres not much boost there. The turbo was inspected when the DPF delete was carried out and it was OK, no oil leakage/shaft play, there doesn't seem to be anything untoward with it.

I scanned the vehicle with VCDS and there are no fault codes. It feels like there is a hell of a LOT more power to give but its just not happening. Also the clutch no longer slips leading me to believe it's definitely not as powerful as before.

    • Off the top of my head I'm thinking boost/vacuum hoses
    • Possibly the fuel filter
    • MAF sensor
    • Could it be possible clutch is completely knackered and engine is limiting torque as a result?

I have VCDS/VAG-COM if anyone could let me know which blocks I should be measuring I can post a log.

Appreciate any guidance as the lack of power is really doing my nut in.

Get it on a smoke test, it will highlight any air leaks.

If clutch had died wouldnt it be slipping all over the place? Seems to be slipping less than before but literally zero power

No fault codes mate. At low revs turbo can be heard spooling up but 2000rpm+ you cant really hear it. With window down it sounds like whoosh/air rushing, revs go up but speed doesnt go up as much as it should. Gonna get it on a ramp and try get hoses inspected. Failing that its either the turbo or clutch :/ turbo isnt making any strange noises and theres no excessive oil usage blue smoke.

Cool man. Hope its an easy fix. Wats the mileage like on your car? It may well be the turbo that's dying, or you just got used to the power real quick lol!! Keep in touch

120k but i had the turbo inspected 1k ago and was in good condition unless its worsened a lot. I thought i may have got used to the power at first but i used to get thrown back in my seat accelerating now theres nothing lol... its depressing.

Will post my findings once its been on a ramp. Heres hoping its not the turbo.

Already needs a new cambelt, bloody money pit lol.

Had the car up on the ramp, intercooler pipes were absolutely caked in oil and there were no splits, heart sunk as we checked the turbocharger out, there was play in the shaft so its safe to say the turbo is gone, now trying to source a new one.
