Intermittent fault on 2005 Cab

I'm having terrible problem with sudden shutdown of all power on my 2005 A4 Cab. Driving along and engine shuts off, electrics fail and am left with no power. Nobody seems to be able to identify fault which shows up as an intermittent electrical
fault on diagnostics but no permanent solution. Anybody have any ideas?

I had this on an old car once. Drive down the road perfectly well suddenly all stop. Leave car for an hour and go back to it and it started first time and drove fine. Turned out the was a dodgy cell in the battery and as it was old the sediment in the battery swirled around and caused battery to die. Once it had settled down again it was fine. Check battery voltage.
