ignore the first thread, no glasses on
hi, my first thread and i'm on the scrounge for help :] my problem is the end of my swirl flaps connection to the vacuum arm has snapped off, so the flaps obviously don't move. i've seen kits on an auction site for the 2.7, but not for the 2.0 diesel sport. does anybody make these kits for this model? went into vw today and this part is not seperate on the fische, so you need a new manifold sir at around £500. for a bit of plastic that i could push on myself and connect to the arm? there's nothing at all wrong with the inlet manifold, apart from the broken plastic connector. all help or knowledge gratefully received.
    cheers, bb.

I just love the cost that car makers conjor up for plastic rubbish. My last car, a Rover 45V6 2.0 ltr 24 valve quad cam, ( That's a gobful) had a plastic manifold with 2 electronic flaps inside. Mine were always working fine after 80,000 miles but many on the MG 2.5 engine failed (and the Landrover Discovery) The manifold was £1200 to replace as no parts were available seperately. How can anyone justify £1200 for a piece of plastic? Similarly in another earlier Rover I had a front end bump and the crap outfit who made the repair didn't fit a rubber seal back with all the clips. I ordered some thinking that they would be about 5p each max making 50p-£1 max for a pack of 10. WRONG they were £1.10 each. I am sure some doink put the decimal point in the wrong place and they should have been 11p each.

Another ironic thing about Passat swirl flaps that I have noticed is that the ridiculous plastic vacuum lever mechanism with a strong vacuum pressure often travels to the horizontal open position, momentarily sticks and then throws an Inlet Manifold Runner Control Deviation code as the spring snaps it closed again. Mine has very minimal wear but the stop pin seems to allow too much rotational travel of the swivel joint. So if I give her some serious right foot then back off suddenly...ping MIL light on! Such a ridiculous design the solution to which seems to involve either a £450 "upgraded" part or the retrofitting of a compatible alloy unit which has no flaps and needs the vacuum circuit sealed off! Bah Humbug!
