Hi Guys. I've got the classic MIL/ glow plug light and DPF filter light occasional coming on my 59 VW TDI Bluemotion CAY 012 888. What worries me is that I do a lot of motorway driving. The first MIL came on just after I did a 250 mile motor way journey. I performed a natural re-gen by driving it for a further 20min at 2500rpm which cleared the lights however the glow plug light has come on intermittently since. I did a quick scan and I got the following error codes:

P2454 - DPF differential pressure sensor circuit low.
P2453 - DPF differential pressure sensor circuit range/performance
(although I cant read the ash or soot levels due to my basic OBDII reader)

I've just put some Wynns DPF cleaner in my tank although I don't hold out much hope for that. What do you think my next step is? I want to try and sort the problem myself rather than taking it to the garaged (trying to take the torch from my Dad who has always fixed my cars but is now unfortunately unable to do so )

Should I perform a chemical clean on the DPF - if so what would you recommend?
Should I take out the DPF and pressure wash it? - how hard is it to take the DPF out of this car?
Or should I get a new pressure sensor. If so how could I calibrate it.

Sorry for the multitude of questions,
I'd appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.
Also I've read the sticky notes on the DPF (great post)

    Thanks,
    Manic222

I would look at the electronic side of things with those fault codes not the DPF itself:

Tiny point, the car is a Golf 6. The DPF is not necessarily blocked, firstly a new presume sensor should be fitted and calibrated and then the soot and ash levels of the DPF can be checked at the same time.

Thanks a lot gents - I'll give that sensor a good hard looking at.

Sorry to sound like a buffoon but if it is the sensor, what would happen if I didn't calibrate it (as I don't yet have the means or knowledge too.) Could I just install a new Exhaust Pressure Sensor 1 (G450) and not calibrate it?

    Thanks manic 222

I don't know what will happen if it is not calibrated, I have not be drunk enough to try it. The "car may burn down" warning about blocked DPF's can make you think twice, I hate barbecues at the best of times...

Haha, fair enough. I don't suppose anyone can point me to youtube video of how to calibrate the said sensor?

If you have full VCDS, it should be in the security access menu and if it is like the A6 I did this morning, the login is 12233 and then you go to basic settings and again, hopefully the menu has the sesnor calibration in the drop down list so you wait whilst it does that and then a bit further down you can delete the learnt values so the ECU will use the new sensor to calculate the soot loading.

Thanks Crasher , would this work on VCDS 12.12.0? or does it have to be the new 14.10 release?

Also I've heard whispers that if you disconnect the battery and then install the new sensor, upon reconnecting the battery the car will do an auto-calibration on all sensors. Does anyone know if this is true or pure rumor?

Should work on v12.12 but why not update to 14.10 as it's a free download.
