Hey guys I'm new to this forum and need some help. I own the above car it's done 100k. For the last few months I've been getting like a siren noise from the engine. Anyway was driving yesterday and heard a pop noise then white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I immediately switched the engine off and called the aa out. The aa asked me to start and rev the engine which I did. He said it's something turbo related as well as other faults, he couldn't say specifically what. I got towed to a garage then he tried starting again to get it off the trailer. But it wouldn't start and the coil pack light came on. Had to jump start it to get it off. I want to know if anyone has had any similar problems. If so what did it turn out to be? I know there are some technical masters on here so maybe you can advise me what I can expect when the garage can look at it?

    Thanks for all your help

Sounds like the dude aa was clueless. Is there anyway to say if the engine is completely blown? Or If it needs a new turbo based on the way things happened as I described!

difficult to see without car on ramp or OS wheel and engine tray / arch liner out the way. Don't take too much notice of the AA's initial diagnosis !

The siren noise from the engine, the popping noise, the white smoke, then the not starting and coil pack light.

siren noise is an air leak from a boost pipe or intercooler. the popping noise is the leak getting large very quickly, the white smoke is because the engine has not enough air due to the leak and the non starting without a jump pack is because you have a flat battery and probably not connected... the coil light is because there is a code stored and needs checking... proably cos of the boost leak..
