    Hi all,

I am after some advice so if anyone can help I am very grateful.

I have recently brought my V5 and love it! Its 2001 and only done 30k miles with fvwsh.

However, the temperature gauge has been going to 90 degrees, as usual, then bombing to zero. Then going to 90 again then down to zero on a regular basis - does anyone know the cause?

Also, when i have been in traffic for 10 mins or so i get this vibration and juddering from the engine - it is hard to explain but its quite loud and only lasts about 10 seconds max. Does anyone know what that could be or have had similar? It has never happened whilst driving and only when stationary.

    Are the two linked?

Any advice will be very gratefully received.

    Regards

    Kevin

The temp gauge problem will be the temperature sensor playing up. This caused the same problem with my 2000 1.8 cabrio, as well as erratic idling and overfuelling as this sensor does more than feed the temp gauge. It is easy to replace and costs about a tenner (from eurocarparts). It will have a cable with 4 wires going into the top and is held in by a plastic circlip (be quick in changing it cos when you remove it the coolant will come out !

    Cheers
    Paul

Thank you very much for your help Paul.

I will buy the part and get it changed and hopefully this will sort it.

One further question - what exactly is the noise/idling/vibrating caused by / coming from? Sorry for sounding stupid but is it serious and is it doing any damage? I was just a bit alarmed when it first came on!

    Kind regards

    Kevin
