Hi my friend wanted to get his golf 4 115bhp (W) 2000 remapped'
when he went to get it remapped he was told because it had an older ECU in it which wasn't Flash compatible or something they cant do it!

Is there any other way of getting some more power for example a tuning box and which one is recommended?????

    Try PM'ing Chip-n-Spin. https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/member.php?u=7054

Im sure with the older ECU's they can be mapped, but physical changes have to be made to the ECU itself.

I would suggest that any 'good' tuning company will be capable of flashing you a new eprom, and installing it in your ECU.

You can even get generically mapped chips via 'mail order' and install them yourself.

The prevalence of relatively cheap OBD 'flash' tuning products has seen a giant increase in 'tuning' companies, many of whom do not know how your car works, let alone how to manipulate various ECU maps for your requirements.

I would steer clear of many of these companies, and find somewhere that will give you a custom map with live data taken 'on the road', or even a rolling road.

I am sure one of our sponsors will be able to help.

Presumably a 1.9 PD TDI 115 as opposed to a 2.0 8v petrol 115? I would recommend a tuning box from Steinbauer expensive but the best.

    Hi There,

Be it petrol or Diesel should be able to Flash both over OBD. It's when you start getting 1998 and before with the VAG's that it becomes a problem. Some flashers (i.e. the cheap ones) wont read and write to some ECU's. But we use OptiCan, which is one of the best and Safest around.

Either way if you come to the Remap and rolling road day, it wont be a problem even if it does require a chip.

Feel free to call me on 07756 190026 if you need any assistance.

    Cheers Mark
