    hi guys,

i recently noticed that my mirrors are not demisting, e.g. heating is not working so to speak even though it was less than 10 degrees centigrade when i checked.

I also tried turning on rear windscreen demist to see if they'll start working but to no avail [albeit they should work independently].

    any hints?

If it's like the A6 I think the temperature has to be below 5C for them to work.

There is a thread in the C6 section on this and after many years I found out that the heating on mine is on all of the time when the mirror adjustment knob is on its centre setting (with hindsight looks like a mirror with heat!) whatever the temperature.

It is not on when the knob is set to adjust either of the mirrors.

I thought it was only on below 5deg C -for about 5 years - but I was wrong!

I did read on here if the knob is left turned to 'heat' setting for a long time, especially when its not cold the elements behind the mirrors can burn out...maybe this is whats happened?

Cannot see any off colour traces which is typical of burn outs... Will double check connectors/fuses again (which i've done already) unless something had gone which again should be flagged in vcds!? Weird really...

You could check the mirror elements for continuity.

Not done an A8 but on my A4 I have tilted the mirror fully up then with a plastic ruler or similar gently prised the mirror off the clips.
