Currently waiting for Audi Assist to come out as the fuel flap has jammed. Tried the remote release but from reading the manual that seems to be only to release the central locking and not the "push to open" mechanism.

I’m tempted to break out the GT85 for mine, but I’m worried that looking at it the wrong way will tip it over the edge

Not sure that will work as the offending piece is behind a rubber cover. Fairly easy to force the flap open when you know how and full marks to Audi Assist, they were with me within 30 mins of my phoning them. Still another item o add to the list of things to do when the car goes in next week. Fortunately it happened this side of the warranty expiring in three weeks time

According to the Audi Technician (answers your second question) who came out it is really straight forward fix. The black piece of plastic within the filler cap area simply comes out as a unit, including the solenoid, and a new one snaps back in.

OK guys I can answer this definitely. The fuel filler flap has a built in solenoid. WD40, GT85 etc will do jack ****. I have just had mine done and according to the senior technician at Shrewsbury Audi the whole fuel filler and filler neck assembly needs replacing. We had ours done under warranty and the guy says it is a known problem and a pain in Audis' backside. Once done you can feel the difference in the push to open.
Apparently, although I haven't tried it you must push the lap at the same time as pulling on the "Flymo" type pull cord.
    Hope this helps
    Andy

Sort of 'on topic' but should my filler flap lock when I lock the car? Tried a few times and when car is locked I can still open the flap. Thanks in advance!

Yes - it should. If it doesn't, it sounds like the locking tangs have snapped off - this happened to my car:

    Broken fuel filler lock

Thanks for that. I'll get it booked in! Thought it was a bit odd.
