    Evening All

Just about to contemplate renewing the suspension on my Audi A6 Avant - have plumped for Bilstein B12 kit as I have managed to get a good deal on this.

Has anyone renewed/upgraded their suspension with this and if so can they give any advice for any pitfalls I should be aware of - or parts that I may require in addition to this?

The reason that I am renewing the complete suspension (dampers and springs) is because a couple of the dampers are leaking quite badly - it is no longer misting that is present. The car has also covered over 174k miles so the suspension (which I suspect is still original) is probably a bit tired now anyway.

Some of the bumpstops are slightly perished so would it be worth renewing these and are the S-line bump stops slightly shorter than standard fitment?

I was contemplating renewing all of the track rod/suspension arm components - but may consider doing this at a later stage/date as they do not seem to be causing any issues; plus have not shown up as an issue on most recent MOT.

Plan is to then have Hunter wheel alignment post renewal just to ensure that all is setup ok.

Many thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions.

When I swapped my suspension on my 2.0 a couple of years ago, I needed new ABS Sensors (Rings) as they had corroded. Other than that all went well.

I'd replace anything that looked perished that links to anything suspension related. It is a fairly time consuming job so you don't want to fit the new setup and then have to replace a worn out part once everything has been bolted back in place

Don't know anyone that has, however if memory serves B5Nut on this forum is considering changing his.

As to the bump stops and covers this listing shows the same for he 3.0 as the S6 so guess they are the same?

Hi - thanks ever so much for both the quick responses and also the link to the bump stops on ebay.

Probably also renew the front and rear top mounts at the same time - Febi Bilstein ones seem to be around £20 each (so £80 all 4 corners).

Think I will make an assessment on renewing any control arms once I'm in there and having a good look around - can always delay the 4 wheel alignment until I've renewed any items that are suspect. Finding mixed reviews on some of the control arm suppliers on ebay - so although I could get a full set and fixings for £249 (Mapco) - when you compare that to the likes of Lemforder, Febi and similar you wonder how they have got the price down so low and what effects that would have on longevity?? Perhaps they don't have the same advertising budget which is why they are cheaper?

Hopefully if B5Nut has renewed theirs with Bilstein then they may see the thread and be able to add further info.

Regarding the ABS rings - did these need to be removed to renew the dampers/springs or was this just something that you noticed when in there?

    Many thanks

They are in the hubs and once you drop everything down, they seem to dislodge them and through up errors on the dash

OK that makes sense. Something to watch out for. Have the Vagcom diagnostic kit so will be able to scan if shows up any anomalies. Cheers for the heads up.

I'm also about to change my suspension, I'm going for the Eibach Pro B12 kit, but I'm also going to change all the arms on the car including the rear. The biggest problem is the rear axle guide (shown in the pic below) they are just over £500 a side! I have seen bushes but they are after market and of unknown quality, and they look difficult to change.

All the arms I get will either be OEM or lemforder, I've tried febi, meyle HD etc and they just don't last compared to lemforder (I guess It's why Audi use them as their OEM supplier) I'm just starting to get the bits together now and it will be towards the end of next month before I get them all and start the job.

B5, why would you think your axle guides need replacing, or is it just a case of replacing all of your undercarriage with new?

Am also guessing that going lemforder on your arms will set you back upwards of £1k?

Hi B5nut surely someone does an aftermarket polyurethane bush kit for the wishbones. They are a bit time consuming to renew....normally require a heatlamp / blowtorch and a hacksaw blade and drift to knock the shell out. That way you keep the existing wishbone arm but have new uprated bushes. Elephant racing and superpro are 2 that spring to mind.

Just had a quick search and neither superpro or powerflex do any bushings for c6 audi. Perhaps not old enough? Plenty for s6, rs6 and a4 up to 2005. Nothing for later models :-(
