Coolant warning light 1.9tdi

I have a 2002 1.9tdi 130 AWX with 282000 on the clock and the coolant warning light started appearing on the dashboard intermittent and now permanent, also the temperature gauge doesn't move from zero.

The car has a new genuine Audi thermostat which was working fine as was the temperature gauge before this issue.

There is no overheating and no loss of coolant.

I replaced the plastic expansion tank thinking it may be the sensor in there but on replacing it the coolant warning light is still there.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

A scan might be helpful. Did the temperature gauge stop working when the light became constant. Could be CTS

Thanks for your quick reply. The temperature gauge stopped working when coolant light was intermittent as well, then worked again every time coolant light was off.

I'll do as you suggested and get it scanned.

Id replace the CTS it only costs a score or so

I'll replace it as it's not expensive. I'm sure I replaced it three years ago but I do a lot of mileage and maybe wants doing again.

Hi all, an update on this issue, I've replaced the CTS and the dashboard still shows the coolant warning light and the temperature gauge still doesn't move from zero.

I went to my local Audi specialist for a diagnostic and they think it's the dash panel.

The dash panel returned the following data:

Live data of the dash said minus 110 degrees

The ECU was ok.

Has anyone had a similar issue with the dash panel?

I don't know whether to live with it due to the cars mileage or send it to be fixed if that is the issue!

With 282k under her belt and its running ok i'd be tempted to leave it,having said that these things do bug us if you want your motor spot on,try a salvaged one maybe.

Do u have just one cts or two? One on the back of the engine and second on bottom of the radiator.

I'm not sure if there's a cts at the bottom of the radiator on my model or not. I've replaced the engine one. Is there one on your car Martynas26?

There's only 1 CTS and it's on the engine. Any replacement must be genuine as the spurious ones seem to be made to keep the light off rather than work properly
