Bit of a mystery at the moment..

I take it you didn't go for the Discover Nav Pro as an option at the time.

Some markets (USA) seem to have the Car-Net module already with Sat nav(module located behind the MFD dash cluster)

I suspect in the UK it may not be there until the MIB II units from build week 22 turn up in the next few weeks.

I'd considered the App Connect option but didn't bother because I couldn't think what apps I would want to use via the infotainment screen? What do people think would be useful?

for me , if i can use google maps, it gives a free sat nav, that i find is better than most anyway. I didnt go for pro nav, as in the lease they wanted to charge the whole price divided by the 24 months. it worked out at almost £100 a month for satnav! I could buy a top of the range tomtom every other month!

I have got car-net, I can see the battery info and control the heating remotely.

correct.

I have car-net and composite media with 6" screen. read the manual and no mention of app connect.

VW confirmed, not available as after market fit :-(
