This evening I've noticed that when I drive over harsh dips in the road or potholes I can hear like a metal on metal knock/noise from the driver side area. Can't hear it when The windows are up. Is it normal? Passenger side is fine

Mine has this too - I knew what it was but the health check confirmed it:
"Top rear arm bushes starting to wear"
Quoted: £497 though I've had it done by an indy cheaper last year.

Roads are just littered with potholes and ramps so this has become a yearly change for me despite almost stationary speeds over ramps etc

My Indy just quoted £348.56 all in for both rear and front top arms ( yes there are two on each side). Audi quoted £380 plus vat for part alone. Indy uses genuine parts just must get a good discount

Maybe just me but I've no issues with fitting non-oem on any car I've owned and in all cases the aftermarket lasted far longer than the OEM, also I've never known one to rust or corrode, it's just the rubber that perishes.

They are usually picked up at MOT or health check, my (upper) fronts have been replaced at last MOT and all the others had some give in them but were advisory. So before next year am going to replace all of them with these:

Hi - just spent ages looking for this thread manually as the search function has changed somewhat on the forum. Just about to renew all the springs and dampers on the A6 Avant and was considering renewing all the track control components at the same time with those suggested by MarkTM in the thread. The car has done 175k on what appears to be the original suspension so probably time for an upgrade. Just wondered if anyone had fitted these items from the link in the post and whether they had any feedback on them post fitment? Many thanks in advance.

I've not changed anything apart from a singleton front upper front which I purchased for £32 delivered from the same supplier.

I would imagine that the first job would be to ensure that all of your arms were torqued correctly, although believe there is a seperate thread on that issue somewhere on here.

It could be that your suspension is fine after that mileage, yes springs and shocks do sag, but just imagine that you've paid to have your suspension lowered.

If it doesn't come up as an MOT advisory or fail then personally I'd not bother changing.

Thanks for quick reply. The car is s-line so lowered already. All of the dampers are leaking and it is no longer a light misting on a couple. Hence renewing with bielsteins and springs all round. Just figured that whilst in there it might be worth changing out the arms. Car is not making any unusual knocking noises like the chap in the thread. Just remembered the reference to the suspension arms and wondered if anyone could comment on quality and performance once fitted? Figured it would be easier to change with dampers, etc....removed and may save me a job in the future.
