Had a good ole run today and watch the mpg climb on my way to Inverness ( albeit the average speed cameras helped somewhat )
Most of the motorway journey at 60mph with a little at 70mph and saw...48.2mpg

From a full tank of 85 litres, having covered 285.9 miles

Meant I had approx 409 left in the tank

giving a total of 694.9 miles range, not bad!

I have managed 716 miles from a tank before, which is just awesome, but god, soo soo boring, you'd just never drive like that in real everyday life.
So, it'll be back to around 500 - 500 miles from a tank again shortly, but it's nice to see what can be achieved

That long coast down from Bogbain farm into Inverness must have helped your average! On a good A9 day if you're not in a rush that can be a real nice drive, especially like it north of Pitlochry onto Inverness.

Well, had the car in at Prestige today and find as follows.....

Went for a test drive with Douglas and he suspected warped discs from the start, pretty bad judder.
I also pointed out the "grabbing effect" when reducing speed slowly that could be felt.....he suspected the rears for this issue.
The pads were getting low but the discs were worn ( there was a lip ) and undulations could be felt through the fingertips almost!

Took the wheels off and inspected, measured the discs for run out and they were warped, also checked the hubs for run out but they seemed in tolerance.

So.....after covering 7344 miles the discs were warped, under Pagid's 25/25 warranty ( 25 months or 25k miles ) they were replaced free of charge, no labour either obvoiously.

I gave Dougie the go ahead to change out pads and discs on the rear at my cost, which he did.
All caliper sliding pins etc greased and calipers cleaned, hub mating surfaces wire brushed / cleaned as required and refitted wheels.

Front pads and discs FREE under warranty
Labour to inspect and diagnose FREE
Supply and fit new Pagid pads and discs for rear £200

A car that now brakes smoothly as it should - PRICELESS

Not sure if I'm convinced ( just my sceptical nature I guess ) but time will tell
    Thanks

Well, as some of you may or may not know, I've been having issues, documented for some time with a sticky ignition barrel......every time I turn the key it sticks just a little then I have to force it somewhat and she starts no problems.

It's been like that for 18 months and probably some time before I bought her, but enough is enough and even at £250 it's time to get it done, so she's booked in for this Thursday for this.

I'm also getting the brake fluid and power steering fluid changed out, it's also been in there for 18 months and I'm unsure as to when it was last done, so something else off the list

I'll be picking up my new front fog light housings when I'm there too, looking forward to it, although I won't be fitting them as I hope to have the front end repainted in the near future, so I'll save them for then.

Although I've had the car tracking checked and done some time ago, I swear she's still pulling a little to the right ( this is borne out by some shoulder wear on drivers tyre ) so that'll be getting done too.

I've asked them to do a check over of the car to see what if any problems there may be, I still have warranty on the car so anything showing up would be good to get looked at now

After this , I may get 4 new tyres next weekend, Connor works at Kwik Fit and advised of a great 50% sale on Pirelli / Bridgestone and Conti's so may as well get them done, really can't say no at these prices

My existing tyres still have around 4mm + on them so there'll be around £100 or so back on them no doubt, for someone looking for good quality spares, or track tyres.

Then the sound deadening will be approaching I think, really chomping at the bit to get into this and see how it goes.....

    Keep you all posted

Back onto this brake juddering issue once more.
I had a front set of Pagid quality discs n pads fitted, probably around 10 months or so ago, this seemed to cure the issue for a wee while, but it returned around 2-3 months ago.

Pagid offered up a new set of brake discs and pads under warranty and they were fitted and all was cured once more. At the same time I just went ahead and renewed the rear discs n pads too.....ALL DONE!

Well, the judder has returned once more with a vengeance, so into Prestige to get checked again........I mentioned my thoughts on hub run out and the Pagid rep came out to do a check, he confirmed his thoughts along these lines too, so.....

Looks like I'm getting new front hubs ( will try warranty route but I don't think these are covered! ) if not they'll be getting done anyway.
Depending on how this goes, I may elect to replace anti roll bar links and stabiliser bar too.
After all every other bush has ben replaced, new brakes all round, new tyres, new bubs so why not??
Kudos to Pagid, who said after this work has been completed they will supply another set of brake pads n discs to match up with the new hubs, can't fault them!!

After all this, I've asked Dougie to do an alignment check on it to true everything up.
Unfortunately the ignition barrel is still not here, so that'll have to wait another few weeks along with the sound deadening in the boot area

Just had the news from Prestige, the warranty company won't cover the front hubs.....great?
They'll cover wheel bearings but NOT hubs......go figure.

Anyhow, bearing this in mind I gave Dougie the go ahead to do the following....
    Replace both front hubs
Fit new brake discs and pads on the front ( covered by Pagid )
    front wheel alignment

Over and above this, I've had an oil change done ( due another shortly ) rear brake pads n discs, foglight housing surrounds, power steering and brake fluid changed out, New Pirelli tyres all round and ignition barrel still to do shortly.
That'll be £1685.00 in the last few months, some I guess I had to do, some I wanted to do.

May leave it another few months before looking at the anti roll bar links / stabiliser links and then front end paint job, after I look at the sound deadening
Thinking I may need to name her L'Oreal - because she's worth it....lol

    oil change done 89,990 miles

Well a nice little stretch of the cats legs last week, left Glasgow and drove down to Warrington, then back up and on to Bridge of Allan before finally getting to Pitlochry
( I had some urgent parts that I collected / delivered - time sensitive for an important customer ) and then back home to Cumbernauld, just short of 600 miles.

Drove like a champ as always, no issues
Had a little good natured fun with an M5 on the M6 made a hundred miles disappear rapidly

    MOT time last Tuesday

I washed her and cleaner her inside n out as I generally do and popped along to get it done, even after spending a "fair amount of money" on front n rear suspension bushes in the past year, new front wheel hubs / bearings, brake pads and discs all round, new Pirelli tyres last few weeks as well as power steering and brake fluids......I was still nervous lol
Thinking, it's probably going to fail on a blown bulb or something really stupid

Anyway, passed All A ok, so all done for another year!

I have spent a fair amount myself in the last year and a half, but as I plant to keep the car for a long time, it's really all mostly preventative and about being proactive.

Once this next little lot is sorted it'll add around £500+ to the bill, then I'm looking at sound deadening for the boot area, then perhaps a front end nose job which may run another £600+
New wheels may ( I stress may be an option, although I do love my exisiting ) and then, I hope to just enjoy and keep her in tip top shape

At least that's the plan, but as I'm sure you know, the plan is always subject to change..lol

I had a close call today, even after teaching the boys to drive and advising them that most accidents happen at roundabouts / junctions, I too was nearly caught out.
The usual, approaching the junction, car in front edging along.....looking at the roundabout and there's a car coming on, but ages away ( you could get the car in front of me, my car and the one behind me out, all safely ) and looks back, sure enough, he's at a standstill!!!!
Immediate emergency brake, ABS kicks in BIG TIME and I end up around 1/4" off his back bumper......of course he was around 80 by the looks of it with his wife and just being super cautious, nearly ended in disaster but the gods ( and some quick reactions ) were on my side

Hi Sam, thanks for dropping by, you checking up on me ?....lol

Yes, the Jag's going well, piling on the miles and really enjoying her " Grace, Pace & Space" as they say. I've spent quite a bit of time, money and effort to make her into the Cat she is today

Still got the A6 although my wifes car now, around 120k and still going strong with very few issues, although she mistreats her and she's unrecognisable as the car I once owned, breaks my heart
I do still drop by from time to time and keep my hand in here n there where n when I can, check up on all the old faces etc

    Hope you're well?
    Best
    Jim
