I have owned a mkIV Gti 150 bhp for 18 months. The yellow Engine Exhaust Light has illuminated on 3 separate occasions since I bought it. So far I have replaced the air mass meter adn had the throttle body cleaned (£350), had a spilt breather pipe replaced (£290) and it is now in the garage having a valve timing solenoid replaced (est £900). Is this a wild goose chase, with no known cure or am I being seen off by my garage?

I'm now expert but £350 just to clean the throttle body and a new MAF...crazy.

I would suspect a lambda probe maybe, get the fault code that are registered and post them up. we should be able to help

Thanks Rob, I'll get the codes when I pick up the car. Just for info, the throttle body service cost £86 for parts and £190 for labour (I live on the outskirts of London).
