Is it possible for me, or someone here with the appropriate access - to find out? After all my diagnosis attempts, I'm starting to suspect that this module is not the correct one for my car - but the national Audi/VAG dealer will NOT give me the part number, just a price quote (some policy). If anyone can help me, VIN and any other detail needed by PM. Don't want to post full VIN on a public, indexed forum. The one currently in the car is 4B0 962 258 E - a google and spare part search turns up too varied a list of "donors", to make any reasonable conclusion with any certainty.

I've experienced issues with my power windows that I am unable to find a cause for. The motors stop at ~2 inch intervals, no matter operation. Or control button used (driver master or "local", safety button in/out). I tried changing the master switch for testing purposes, no difference. Neglible voltage drop with engine off, same behavior with the motors removed from the regulators (no phyiscal load) - so its not the gliders or regulators. Same behavior on other windows, with one disconnected motor at a time. All wiring and terminals seem in good shape. Central Locking module had no corrosion, no sign of "current" or previous moisture in the module housing, terminals or visual inspection of the inside of the Central Locking module itself. The large box was not correctly inserted with the rear casing, suggesting it might have been opened (and/or replaced?) sometime in the past.

The CCM module you have installed is suitable for cars with PR Nos 5D1 or 9V7. Have a look at the inside page of your owners manual or the label in the spare wheel well and see if either of these nos are present. Your CCM suffix no is the last character ie. E. OTHER CCMs are for PR Nos 5D2, 5D3 and 7AH. If you see one of these PR nos in your owners manual, you have the wrong CCM installed.

I'm not sure I'm looking in the right place - what here (if any) is the PR numbers? I couldn't identify those. This from my booklet. At first glance spare wheel well looks identical, but I'll have another look if what you mean, isn't here.

Will check in the morning - maybe 7AH I stated should be H7A which is on your label - this would mean an incorrect CCM installed. What, other than the problem, makes you think you may have the wrong one installed?

For your info the parts manual not only lists the part no but also the PR no of the car that it fits. So this is a check that you do get the correct part for the car in question. Several models can use the same part and so have the same PR no on the label.

I typed those option codes(?) in my booklet into a "decoder", along with those you mentioned. All those you listed "decodes" to central locking / wireless etc - equipment. None of the ones listed in my booklet, seem to do so (?)
    Code:
    X1C;B0A;C6U;G0G;H7A;J0L;M88;Q1D;1BE;1AH;1G3;2PG;1N1;5RQ;5SL;T7T;0JH;3S2;4UE;0YQ;0G1;8DF;8GL;8RX;1KD;1LB;3FA;1BE
To be honest, I've checked pretty much anything I can think of. Things appear to be working consistantly, just not as they're supposed to. When I had the module out to check terminals, solder joints, components... I noticed is that the "waterproof" casing for the module wasn't seated with, or tightened down with the rear fastener, but the fastener was in good condition. Coupled with VAG workshop history from the previous owner saying it came in and had 2 fobs programmed. From the "work codes" it suggests they had the door cover off to do so, by procedure that would possibly point to the owner not having any (working) forbs to initiate "the easy way" of matching.

All in all its a bit of a shot, but by deduction its one of the rather few things left on my list.

Pics of current module, and fob:

Hi. This URL lists ALL Audi PR nos. eg X1C = Denmark, H7A = tyres. Download the pdf and search/identify all YOUR pr nos. I will interrogate the parts manual for YOUR car and get back to you.

Hi. It looks like your 1998 W A6 Avant does not have an anti- theft alarm system (missing relevant PR codes on your label). If this is correct, the CCM Module should have suffix D or J and not the one currently installed E. At least, that is what the parts manual seems to be saying. You will have to do further research to determine if this is causing your problem. If you have VCDS you could try deleting one of the keys from the CCM memory and re-defining it to see if that helps.

Yes this "99" was delivered 31.12.98. I can't with 110% certainty tell if it has an alarm, as I have never had it go off. But it has the fob, confirmation, blinking led in the door top, Auto HVAC (2-zone climatronic with e-con and rear seating vent controls), Interior Monitor and Immobiliser (integrated in the [17] cluster). And the very first auto-scan I had done when I bought it, showed several old "Alarm triggered by" codes left in memory. So I would believe it is within fair reason to suggest it does indeed have an alarm.

Could possibly the alarm, and maybe other parts, be "under" a blanket-code (if thats what they are) like the X1C : National sales program Norwa, or B0A : Component parts set without country-specific design requirement ... ?

From what you say your car does seem to have an immobiliser and alarm (so = anti-theft device?). Just don't know why none of the above PR codes are listed. My 2002 Allroad for example has 5D1 listed. It could be Audi changed the label data sometime between year 99 and 2002!
Assume you have the anti-theft device and suffix E is the correct CCM level for your car. Try re-adapting with VCDS one of the keys. There is a VCDS process to remove the key from the CCM memory (before beginning, you have the key in the ignition and the ignition turned on - but not starting engine). In the CCM control module of vcds you will see the key in one of the "memory slots". Remove it and then use VCDS to re-adapt (ie. allocate a memory position) to this key. Then see if your key works as per spec. Also, have you tried one or more windows down fully or partially and then press the lock button on the fob to lock the car and then again press and hold the lock button until all 4 windows automatically wind up? Do they all close?
The situation where the window only moves a couple of inches is like when the battery is disconnected and the windows have to be re-adapted by repeatedly pressing the down/up switches on the inner door rest to get them all the way down and then back up. After this process for each window, one press down or up on the inner door rest switch will move the window all the way - but I assume you are aware of this!
