    Hi,

I'm looking to purchase an A4 avant 2 litre TFSI quattro as my current car (skoda fabia vrs 6y) is getting a bit small with all these children.

so I'm looking for any advice in relation for what to look out for when buying and any common faults / problems For this car.

really can't afford a lemon right now so any help is greatly appreciated.

    many thanks!

    Thanks for your reply,

    poor compared to a b6?

I have a large toddler soon to be in a booster and a newborn.

I have a 2.0 tfsi se non quattro. I have 2 kids 9 and 12 yrs plenty of room in the back for them.Things to watch for, check the cam belt has been done every 75,000 miles or 5 yrs. full service history, coil pack recall is done. only other things I've had on mine is turbo recirculation valve replaced and it needs suspension arms on the front . other than that its been a good car now on 101,000 miles and going fine.

I would add the PCV is a major issue (and associated breather if you have the valve) - when it fails it not only causes bad idling, excessive oil consumption, but also can cause other seals to go as you get boost pressure where you shouldn't (so I had a rear main oil seal change and my oil sump sealant had to be replaced - both costly). Its cheap to replaced but its the consequential damage thats a problem. Simple tests you can do for this are to see how difficult the oil filler cap is to remove and to try to blow down the hose running from the manifold to the PCV. So check the belly pan for oil leaks if possible or around the components.

It's well known it's snug in the back , a few comments I found.

Yes, the lack of back seat room concerns me. I don't often carry passengers back there, but when I do...
An A6 would have more room but it's out of my price range.

I drive a MK6 GTI. I have more rear leg room than the A4 has.

Yep, its defo snug in the back with adults. I've got a toddler so normally it's no problems or would be doing short trips with adults so again no problems. But the other day I did do a hour trip with the grandparents on board as well it was pretty snug. It was fine but it did get a touch uncomfortable for them - the taller was 5'10". I can see that 6'+ would find it uncomfortable if in the car for long.
