hi can anyone tell me if theres a relay on the accelerator the reason im asking is when the car is hot it starts up but will only tickover i can put my foot to the floor and it wont respond but if i drive the car with the blowers on (doesnt matter if i have hot or cold air blowing)and its got to be on at least 4 bars the car starts perfect every time is the current drain affecting something its been on vagcom and theres no fault codes one thing that did make a difference was an auto electrician put a resistor on one of the wires on the coolant temp sensor it cured the problem but the car was eating the diesel so i took it off any suggestions will be really appreciated cheers bill

I could be wrong but I think Eddie is referring to the pedal sensor.

Like you I think the injector pump or ancilliaries would flag a code if there were an impending failure.

you could remove and clean the throttle position sensor and see if that helps there are ways of checking these with a multimeter but i ave'nt done it for that long i cant remember

i could be totally wrong, but i believe the throttle sensor would work something like this, the numbers quoted are just for reference.
at tick over, it would send 1/2 volt to ecu, and at full speed it would send 11.1/2 volt, with various voltages between the two limits depending on how far you depress it. therefore if the ecu read no voltage, it would know that the sensor had gone open circuit, logging a code, and if the ecu read 12 volts it would know that the sensor had shorted, again logging a different code. if it fails, and still gives 1/2a volt when you have it pressed, it may only think you don't have it pressed and so won't put up a code, but will allow engine to tick over.
i'm quoting volts, but it may well be ohms( resistance ), but the principle's the same. hope i haven't confused you too much!

thanks stewy so could i have a faulty throttle sensor ,there are no fault codes ,could the throttle sensor be faulty without showing any fault codes cheers bill

yes i believe so bill. if it sends only the value for tick over when you have it pressed, it will think you don't have it pressed, and gives you tick over, it won't know that you have it pressed and so won't give a code.
