Does anyone have experience of injector cleaning on PD engines (or even if it is ever necessary)? I am interested in getting the best performance and economy but am concerned not to degrade the seals with powerful solvent. Many thanks.

add a pint of petrol to a full tank of diesel, and make sure she is serviced up with good clean filters, the timing must be spot on and best to fit a new injector harness if its done more than 100k miles on it. injector seals are easy enough to do and make a big difference if they are past their best, and also gives you a reason to set the injector rockers tolerances.

yes, there are 3 or 4 pre and post injections of fuel, and the main injection. as the loom degrades you start to lose these tiny injections that get the burn going and keep it going after the main power injection. its quite remarkable looking at a new and old loom on a scope, especially when the engine is running fine, but a new loom does make a difference. its a cheap price to pay to keep an engine in tip top running order, yet is often overlooked.

I don't doubt it , it's a hot harsh environment inside a cylinder head . Just that most encounter a misfire around 250k requiring loom replacement.

Mine made very good power on a dyno at around 165k so I'm not looking to replace anything except a due cambelt kit , water pump and aux belts .

I`ve always understood you don`t put petrol in modern direct injection diesels, ok for the old idi and tractors.
Use Archoil AR 6600 or BG 244 both good

not in a common rail , no, but a pd is a different matter. in fact the most petrol you can add to a pd without having to drain the tank is 25 %.

Paraffin is also used in cold weather with diesel, usually its a gallon of petrol to a full tank of diesel

An Italian decoke does wonders, put it in 2nd gear and travel for a few hundred yards down a road just under the red revs
